R26 Rear disc replacement

  1. My rear discs and pads are about dead and I was wondering how hard of a job is it to DIY? Or is best left to a garage. Only thing that's concerning me is that the rear bearing is within the disc so I really don't want to screw it up! Has anyone done it themselves?

    Thanks a lot

  2. New discs come with bearing already pressed in so that bit is idiot proof. Just be sure to order the right one as there are two different sized bearings, IIRC 22mm and 24mm?

Then it's a matter of removing the caliper and bracket from the rear axle, no need to break into the hydraulics so no bleeding required, pop the nut cap off with a screwdriver if fitted and undo the bolt, once again not 100% but it may be a 24mm socket required? Disc slides off and new one goes back on then rebuild with new stub nut.

  3. Yer easy peasy as above. Stub nut was like 30mm or something, had to go halfords for a socket that size. Cant remember exact size mind.

buy a wind back tool whilst you are there, you will need it to wind the caliper back

  4. Brilliant, thanks guys. Next challenge is to find the discs at a decent price! I wouldn't have even thought of a wind back tool, thanks for the info there too.

  5. If your using the same pads and the old discs aren't heavily worn you may get away with having to wind the pistons back.

One quick note if you follow that guide the only difference for the meganes over the clios is don't jack it up via the rear beam. The Meganes for some reason are covered in very breakable plastic covers, best to use the jacking points on the side sills.

  6. Both discs and pads are virtually dead, I have a feeling there will have to be a lot of winding..... Ah nice one thank you, I usually use the jacking points but I saw that and wondered. Cheers mate!

  7. Its a very easy job with the right tools, i tried without the wind back and failed miserably, 2 mins with it!

  8. If your going for the oem set-up speak to ads and he'll soet you out
