Sliced earth cable!

  1. Hi all!
Thought I'd share my experience of what we thought was a knackered starter motor!

Drove my car to Southampton just over a week ago which is about 130 miles from me - no problems!

Driving home around rush hour service due comes on - damn!

Get home about 7pm and pull in at the local shop run out get some grub and get into car and bang it doesn't start....

You could hear the fuel pump then every other attempt the click of the solenoid I believe...... So I get my dad out and we push it along and bump it (confusing with a push start!) it the proceeds to start no problem after that. I then left it for a week (went goodwood! :tongueout:) got back didn't start so changed starter motor - biggest faff ever! Big forearms don't help!

So replace the motor and it struggles to start but does! It then starts okish for the next few days... Then doesn't again! Hmmmmmm!

We try bumping it off my gf's car and it's having none of it!!

After hours of wrecking our minds we realise there was an offending item! I have attached the picture showing hope it is clear!!

The earth to the engine had completely sheered off! Don't know how or why?? But getting to that cable to replace it now that is an arse!

Probably an un informative post but I felt like I could try and help others if if happens and I had to tell people that would understand!

Want to know any more just say  ve7agepa.jpg

  2. I had the same problem in mine the wire had corroded and snapped you can use a jump lead to make a temporary earth by clipping one end to your negative battery cable and earthing the other on your engine block or gear box a lad on the other forum made me a replacement as you can't get replacements from renault

  3. i had this on a previous car but working at a lecy company was easy to make a cable of my own and connect it to the gearbox for a chassis connection

  4. I picked up a £5 earth cable from local auto shop and re routed it slightly and it's seems to of done the trick! Was an arse trying to work it all out!!

I advise you to always use a better quality of wire so the earth passed from it also comfortably and you got no issue on it,think about it deeply and safe your earth leakage process with it,i am a mechanic so i know well about it and their quality.

  6. Is English your native tongue?

  7. I'm not sure but it's possible he might be a mechanic. Just the impression I get.
