Key card sometimes asking to be in the slot, sometimes not?

  1. Me and my friend both have 55 plate 225's, his is a normal 3 door volcano 225 and mine is a trophy 225. Just wondering why he always has to have his key card inserted into the key card slot in the dash in order for the ignition and engine to start, however with mine I just have to have the card in my pocket, but today mine actually said the key card needs to be inserted?!? So I did and it started fine. I've used the car since and it didn't ask me again. Just wondering why mine doesn't need it inserts when my friends does everytime, and also why mine has freakily asked for it once to be inserted and never since?

    Cheers, Dan

  2. Mine sometimes can't detect mine if it's behind my phone or wallet, so I put it in that little pocket on the right hand side of my jeans.

  3. Assuming its the same as an rs250, the following applies:
    If you lock with the keycard button, you must unlock with keycard button;
    If you have keyless entry, you enable by inserting the card into dash, start the car, switch off and remove card, climb out and back away from the vehicle, if all is in order it will lock itself without any intervention; it will then also unlock when you touch the inside of doorhandle when card is in range (pocket), and then also allow keyless start with ignition button only;
    So using the keycard buttons switches keyless off;
    Theres a couple of other tricks but thats the basics;

  4. I'm new to using a card for a key so more than likely haven't been using it properly. What I have been doing since I've had the car (about a month) is when I want to get in the car with the key either in my hand or pocket, I just grip the drivers door handle and listen for the door unlocking then open and get in as usual. When in the car I have never inserted the car as the display has always just said press clutch or brake to start, so that's what I've done. When leaving and locking the car I've always pressed the stop button then opened the door, exited the car and shut the door behind me but used the button on the key card to lock it. So I've been doing a bit of both really.

  5. When you will leave the car use button on a door handle to retain keyless feature.

  6. Nope on my 225 if I lock it with the button on the card the keyless entry still works?

  7. Yeah Ben mine is doing the same?!?

  8. I always lock the doors if I am leaving the car for a while by pressing the lock button twice, you will get 5 flashes from the indicators telling you that you have deadlocked the doors...(if that's what you call it) for extra safety. If I leave the car to go to pay petrol or whatever I just walk away from it and it locks itself.

    If I double lock the car I need to use the card to unlock the car, if I just walk away it opens with hand on handle. I have never needed or been asked to place the card in the slot!

  9. Not all 225 have keyless, they use a card key, but you use it as a key.

  10. And sometimes if constantly in your pocket the key looses sync with the car hence it asking to be inserted in the slot.

  11. try changing the battery in your key card
    this use to happen to me if the signal wasn't strong enough from the key card

  12. Is keyless entry standard on all R26's? I thought it was an option! it's never worked on mine :worried:

  13. If youve got a button on the drivers door handle its keyless.

  14. It's not like the newer models... the 225 and R26 don't have auto lock. I recently had a '63 plate Clio as a curteousy car - that was fully keyless. I have keyless entry and start on my 225 but it shocked me when it auto locked! Haha.
    As you say, on the newer ones with auto lock, if you lock with button then the keyless entry won't work next time (you must unlock with the button). This also caught me off guard.

    Not all 225/R26 models had full keyless (none have auto lock, booo, this wss great to have). If they do have keyless then you need to keep an eye kn the battery, they get low quickly and will let you know by periodically not working.
    In the meantime just pop the 'key' out, remove the battery, put back in and spin it; keep doing this to squeeze as much life as possible out of them.

    Tesco sell those batteries really cheap. :wink:

  15. Hmmm I'm sure my R26 has auto lock. I've unlocked it once or twice when cleaning it, walked away amd came back to find its locked itself

  16. Thats more the car relocking after not opening the doors after unlocking the car. If you was to get out the car after a journey, it wouldnt lock itself.

  17. Maybe unintentional (like old Fords, be careful - they locked the keys in a lot haha).

    Deliberate auto lock is obvious and kicks in from as little as 3-5 feet away from the car; you should be hearing it lock as you're walking away.

    I could be wrong but if you've never noticed it auto lock (and it's very rare to find it locked when you know for sure you didn't lock it) it's more probable that it wasn't intentional. :wink:

  18. It's always auto locked if I havent locked it manually myself, quite annoying as sometimes I've just popped into the house to grab something.

  19. Must have been added later for the R26 then.

  20. If i remember right, change the battery in the key card and it should be fine.

  21. No it was a option bud

  22. think i'll get some spares from Tesco this afternoon and see if it helps!! Its only done it twice, three times at the most so its not really an issue, just I'm that used to jumping in and pressing start now!

  23. Morning, can't seem to find much info on this common fault! It can't be just a battery issue can it?? I've changed battery before & the message I'm getting is 'card not detected' any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful.... Thanks

  24. Try using it in the slot for a week or two, then start using it keyless again, it was quite common on the clios to lose sync with the car, and after a period of using the slot worked fine again.
