225 battery relocation wire type?

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by bbaxby, Aug 13, 2014.

  1. hi all im wanting to relocate my battery to the boot, but what is the best type of wire/cable to use to do this everywhere seems to say they have the wrong amp/current capacity.
can anyone advise me with this?

    cheers ben

  2. im sure theres a kit for this? pretty sure its forge that does it. you will need quite a heavy duty cable for it tho just with the high current.

I used a cable off an E46 M3. Bit mine sits behind the passenger seat.

  4. i thought there was too i tried google searching it but nothing comes up tbh

  5. ah if you search threads for 'battery relocation' itll show a guy who had one for sale but it does say one off. so might be a ring up forge and ask. tbh you could keep the wired connections at the front and isolate it from the chassis. Then add a suitable cable ,that can keep up to the current, from the boot to the front positive connection. i would think for 10-15ft of cable youd need 1AWG, or if you require 5-10ft of cable go down to 4AWG (thinking that the magane battery is 60-100A) then just ground it to a decent chassis connection. hope that helps in any way mate

  6. the battery is 60-75 Ah (amp hours), which is the amount of energy stored in it..that has nothing to do with how much current flows through the wires.. typically, a car battery is able to supply a starting current in the 500A region..

Nice to know the suggestion about it,i am not sure about it but now i properly understand it and having n issue on it,it increase my knowledge about the car issues and would be helpful for me in my professional work.

  8. It's cranking power/alternator power which is the main concern. I've hot 0awg and it's just too big so I'll be going down a size.

  9. 25mm is ok

  11. Hi Ben,

Just be careful when doing this. I disconnected the ECU and accidently dislodged an earth cable. Fixed that but there is something else I have disturbed as car will still not start.
I will also be doing the same as you, battery in the boot, probably right behind the back seat on the passanger side to reduce cable length.

Keep an eye on this thread and in case you get stuck I might be able help: http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread.php?4152-Megane-won-t-start-very-annoyed-PLEASE-HELP-ME

1/ How are you mounting the battery to the floor? I was thinking ratchet straps or custom fixed mount.
2/ I have bought a Optima non spillage battery, as the last thing I want is ACID leakage in the boot on kids pram or coats etc.
3/ I am toying on the idea of making a cover for it... what are you covering it?
4/ What are you doing up front with the red connector box? I was thinking of insulation the underside as it is live and bare underneath and putting it in another plastic box from maplins.

I would also recommend cleaning all he earth points on the body as a weak earth will cause you numerous problems. You will find a few in poor condition like I did.

PS. I haven't got round to doing mine yet but I will be using 4awg cable.

  12. I personally wouldnt be moving it to the boot if your having children in the car. The boot floor isn't the strongest and i wouldnt want the battery moving!

  13. I was thinking of mounting it to the rear chassis on the left hand side just behind the back seat.

  14. Unless you have the need for a big induction kit or a track car it seems a pointless mod to me

  15. Sorry I should have said early.

I need to do this mod to free up decent space for LPG ECU and Vapouriser.
This will also free up enough space for a decent induction kit for the future. :tongueout:

  16. Just run a smaller battery.
