[250] Unplugged/unused connector

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by hooverphonique, Jul 23, 2014.

  1. Hi,

I've had my 250 for about a month, so doesn't know the ins and outs of it yet.. I just noticed this unplugged connector just above the radiator, but couldn't find anywhere it would fit into... Does anyone know what it is/where it goes?

    cheers..

  2. Just had a quick look at mine, that connection is plugged into another electrical cable that goes to the bonnet release mechanism so could possibly have something to do with the alarm system.

Easy way to check is to unlock the car, open the bonnet then with the bonnet left open and the doors shut, lock the car and the alarm should activate, if it doesn't then it's probably due to this plug being disconnected.

As above, it's for a bonet switch

  4. thanks, I'll have another look.. I guess if it's for security purposes, the bonnet switch should be present on all equipment models?

  5. I would think so mate, they all have the same alarm/immobiliser system.

  6. Perhaps previous owner unplugged it to have the bonnet up with the car locked for shows etc? I did the same thing on my old 197.

Or its had a new grille and they forgot to connect it back up to the lock.

Let's be honest though - if they've broken in to your car to get the bonet open then the alarm is already likely to be going off due to either a smashed glass window or an opened door.

  8. just took the lock out.. doesn't appear to have a switch, connector or anything electrically related on it

  10. Here we go then ImageUploadedByTapatalk1406220720.914013.jpg

  11. The cable that plugs in to this has a black and red braided sheath. Might help u spot it.

  12. Ok, I've been out again and checked, the plug is connected to a cable with 2 wires (1 Black and 1 Blue).

The cable runs under the bonnet release catch and connects to the left hand side of mechanism as you look at it from the front of the car.

  13. thanks.. but as you can see on my photo, there is no electrical connection on the mechanish, and no hole in the plastic underneath for a cable to go through.. or am I looking in the wrong spot?

    cheers..

  14. Looks like the cable has been removed from yours, there is no dedicated hole as such, the cable just feeds through the gap at the top of the grill. I'll post a photo later mate.

  15. did you get a chance to take a photo, bumblebee?

    cheers..

  16. Here you go mate,

  17. thanks, mate..

so, since the connector is open circuit when a switch is not fitted, I figured the (missing) bonnet switch must be closed circuit when present and the bonnet is open, so I tried locking the car with the bonnet open and shorting the connector.. Nothing happened.. Could it actually be the case, that the car has no alarm? I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, either..

  18. Should have motion sensors at the top of each 'A' pillar inside. I can't see the car not having the alarm as it is factory fitted as standard. Probably had a duff bonnet sensor removed by the previous owner.

  19. similar to the PIR sensors you fit in buildings?

Me neither.. just strange, I can't make it go off by fiddling with the connector.. I wonder, if there is a feature to disable the bonnet alarm for shows, etc...

  20. I assumed those things at the top of the a pillar are mics for the phone?

  21. nope alarm

  22. photo of the right A pillar where it meets the roof lining - no sign of a sensor there, so I guess this car has no alarm system..

  23. I beleive the alarms are fitted while waiting in the docks after arrival from france.

  24. Mk3 is built in Spain mate.

  25. This is what the alarm sensor looks like mate.

  26. damn.. should be possible to make that sort of thing more subtle, you'd think...

  27. Yeah, they could have at least tried to fit sensors that match the colour of the interior trim.

Just a quick thought though, if as Ryan said, the alarm systems are fitted after leaving the factory at the country of sale, then your car may have a completely different system to UK spec cars.

  28. well from spain then, they still have the alarms fitted in the docks in the uk. maybe denmark dont have this done

  29. Car crime may not be as much of a problem in Denmark as it is in the UK so they could be fitted with a less complicated system than the UK spec Thatcham approved systems.

  30. yes, sounds like it could easily be region-specific then.. I got a printout of the spec sheet from renault-net from the dealer - it's in swedish, but as far as I can make out, it doesn't say anything about an alarm system being present or not..
