Hi. I think I may have a problem with breaks on my Meg. They just don't feel sharp enough. I was driving my colleague's P206 2.0 petrol, and I was surprised that it breaks better than my car. All that deterioration may happen over last 6 months my ownership of the car and driving it day to day I just didn't notice that something is wrong. Pads and disks are still ok, changed at 28k miles 9 months ago. Break fluid level seems to be ok. What may possibly be wrong? I don't do any track days and I drive rather sensible.
I never topped up fluid. I guess it hasn't been changed, as it is part of 4 year service. Level seems to be correct.
The difference you'll find is how much service assistance is present. Stamp in them, I mean put your foot through the floor and they'll work.
Ah didn't realise it was 4 years on the schedule, does it look normal or has it discoloured? TBH the servo assist is a very good point, the wife's Jazz's breaks seem awesome if you just lightly brush them, mega initial bite but that's down to the level of assist. Could always have a look at the pads to see if they are glazed? bit of sandpaper and or a file if they are?
I had a 250 from new for three years and kept getting the same issue. Never resolved it. I read a thread on Megane.net about how to deglaze it was something like 10 emergency stops with a pause after 5. [Not in traffic and check you mirrors ha ha] It did improve so perhaps it was that. It was a bit random though too like the Servo had a leak. Just got a new 265 [cup chassis NO grooved discs now] Pedal feel is incredible more 'normal' so something has changed perhaps the pads are a tad softer. I have not braked that hard yet. FOS motorsport in Scotland [trade on E bay too] does new OE Brembo pads for about £60 Cheers Andy
Thank you Andy. I had 10 emergency stops today morning, it didn't resolve a issue. It is good hear that someone else experienced it before. I can't see any leaks, but I will take car to garage next week to change a tyres so I will ask them to have a look for any leaks from break servo.
If you have shit tyres or down on the markers that wont be helping. megane brakes have never been sharp which i why i like them as you can modulate much more on the pedal travel. Go for a sharper DS or CL pad if you want sharp brakes. If you are getting new tyres see if that helps first
Thank you. I will change tyres next week. I have nearly not used pads so I won't change them for while. I hope it is not something serious such as leak from servo.
Nah i doubt it. I had the same as you with my old r26 and my missus had a corsa vxr, her brakes were miles better as her car was lighter and massively over servo'd she loved it though as they were nice and sharp for her. when you really want to use your brakes, they will work dont worry. I found my 265 brakes the same feel as my r26 just stronger std v std.
How come you don't have grooved discs? Did you change them? I've got a 265 cup and it came with grooved discs. My pads were glazed after a session at Knockhill recently, I was getting the same problem. The harder I pressed the worse they were with a lot of whirring if you like from the grooves. Only stripped and cleaned/roughed the pads up yesterday so yet to see if it's cured it.
Andy has the facelift where they no longer do grooved discs for (or xenons amongst others) seems cost cutting which is a shame!
Now do not start me off!! No auto dipping mirror either. Just a cheap plastic one with a lever. No headlamp washers [good as I did not like them and disconnected them gunge all up the bonnet] No grooved discs, no superb best ever directional Bi Xenons. No little lidded p pot. No cig lighter however it is capped off with a flip up lid which is nice. I could go on. Anyone know if the dipping mirro can be retro fitted ? Is the wiring still in the headlining? Cheers Andy
Sorry to be cryptic. All earlier meggers had the Smokers pack. Ciggie lighter and a small matt grey plastic pot with a lid and a stubber inside fitted into the cup holder in front of the gear stick as an ashtray. Take the stubber out. Very useful for keeping bits in. I nicked the old one out the car to put in the 2014 model. Cheers Andy
I have always thought the brakes arent sharp but they are meant to be like that, when you need them they are sharp enough. And they fade much less than other cars so you can keep on using them hard and not lose much bite. When I drove the Golf R i expected them to be extra sharp as vw and audis usually are but they were suprisingly similar to the meganes which I was quite happy about !
