R26 Exhaust - K-Tec, Piper, Milltek, or Supersprint?

I know this has been asked before, but couldn't find one that covered these brands.

My R26 currently has the standard exhaust with no mods. I'm looking for a little bit more rumble and grunt, but nothing to keep the neighbours up with.

In my old 172 Cup with a Ktec exhaust it was easily 90db+ in the car with a horrible drone on motorways, which you had to wear earplugs with really to stop major headaches and keep your hearing. I really don't want a similar experience to the Clio.

I know there is the chop mod, but I'd rather get a proper Cat-Back in place. Now the question is, with these three systems (K-Tec, MillTek, or Supersprint) what are the pro/cons of each system. The Supersprint looks pricey compared to the other 2, but is that justified?

Is the K-Tec system still made by Piper, or is it made by Milltek now too? I've watched any number of videos on YouTube, but would be good to get everyone's input from here.#

    Thanks.

You can probably go custom for around the price of these systems new. Why not do that and get the exact noise you want?

  3. awaits andybond to come in with rstuning exhaust

  4. Saved me having to

Hadn't really thought about that option tbh. Will have a look around Milton Keynes, any tips on specialists worth visiting?

  6. When my exhaust finally gives up, I know I will be going the custom route. I don't want ear plugs in my car and I know a local shop that can do full custom stainless exhausts at a reasonable rate

  7. Longlife? Check out their website......bound to be a depot nearby. Offers 3 noise levels :-)

  8. FYI mines 84db @ 4k revs. Got the 2.5" system on the meg powered clio which has 2 back boxes.
Use to have the 3" when I had the meg and tbh its probably only sub 1-3db louder if that, at granny driving. These cars are very quite when you aren't boosting thanks to le turbo .

  9. What's the crack with long life then? Seems a mixed bag of reviews.

  10. Long life will custom make.......mandral bends....... 3 inch dai and a choice of 3 different gruntyness/ loudness. I' m not sure what's not to like at more than 100 squid cheaper that the 'brands' tbh I'm going for one

  11. I have milltek with almost standard looking ends and midbox chop.
It isn't quiet, but there's no droning. I can't bare that sort of exhaust, something you hear fitted to a corsa b.
It bangs and it pops quite a bit. I drive with the windows down because of this.

  12. Quality of materials , quality of welds.

I dont know what they use , and how they weld , but I assure you there is some welding porn out there.

Has anyone found a an exhaust, apart from the chop, that increases db and grunt while still maintaining the whistle?

  14. Same thickness/ quality/spec for the stainless steel. Can't comment on the welds but a) guaranteed for life and b) no one see the welds unless you run them over :-)

I was told the whistle was actually a by-product of a restriction in the centre box. So to gain grunt (flow) you need to remove it!

  16. Imo the whistle sounds crap anyway. Much prefer the nice deep rumble of an exhaust.

  17. But you dont know what thickness / quality spec stainless is used in other manufacturers exhausts so hard to compare no ?

  18. Reasonable question .....I was going by the much vaunted 'aircraft grade t304 ss' which they all seem to boast about and which seems to be the optimal standard. The other attraction is that the lifetime guarantee is transferable too......do any of the others offer that? Not a deal breaker for me but it's a bonus when it comes to selling time I guess.
Interestingly they claim an extra 33 bhp on an impretza over the std exhaust which a 3inch cat back!

I'm going to go from a standard cat back (with a back box chop but I don't think that effects performance) to an uprated system in a few months. Decat already in place. It will be interesting to see how much it frees up, not 33 I don't think and it certainly after a remap!

  20. Crumbs. 33bhp is a bold claim.

Was it a 600hp monster running through a peashooter ?

  21. I thought the same but seems kosher........on their website

In order to be able to back up our claims, we teamed up with Redline Magazine to build an exhaust on their Impreza STi. The car was benchmark tested on a rolling road with the standard exhaust system and produced 317bhp and 361 lb/ft of torque. With our custom made 3" cat back Longlife system, the car produced an impressive 350bhp and 364 lb/ft of torque - 33bhp up from standard.

Booking my Meggy in .....quote is £480

Sounds like a great price to me considering the off the shelve costs. Pics would be good if you get the chance, when are you booked in?

That 33Bhp claim sounds ridiculous considering the torque only increased by 3 ft/lbs. Did power over the rev range change that much?

  23. Trying for coming Monday or Monday after....will get some pics and post em up

  24. the power claim is probably measured at higher rpm's than the original power claim.. in other words it was restricted by the old system..
