Traction Control

  1. Traction Control - on or off?

I've not read or heard anything about how invasive the system is on the R26, but having only recently played about with mine turned off, it would appear the answer is very.

Normally I would only ever see the TC light flash with the system on when exiting roundabouts under extreme provocation. This lead me to believe that it wasn't really worth turning it off.

I was wrong. It appears that the TC kills the power before you realise and the before the light flashes. Because of the extra difference in wheel speeds, it seems that the diff works more quickly and results in more grip/less udersteer.

This is purely on the road, having never had the car on a track. Am I alone/imagining this?

  2. I wouldn't say it was too invasive, but it is a bit of a pain in the wet when pushing on. Most of the time I leave it where it is, but if I am playing about I will turn it off.

Just be glad that you can fully turn it off on the R26!

  3. I wouldn't know about this, mine turns back on over 30 and there's not much scope to have much fun under that speed outside of the local tesco carpark...

  4. Mine has never intruded except at low speed in the wet.

  5. traction control is a little agressive, it's a shame you can't separate the traction control and the ESP. The ESP tune on these cars is quite good imo. But the brake steer probably works in conjunction with the power cut to reduce understeer. It does work well on track where speeds are higher and traction is less of an issue.

I always leave it on for the road, and the ring. Just not worth the risk for when you need it. Only exception is a well know bend / roundabout where it goes off!

You meant the ESP/ASR switch? I didn't think that was traction control.

    Anyway, mine is always off.

  7. The 250s setup is much better IMO where you can set it to 'Sport ESP' which allows you to have some tail end fun but if you overcook it the car will still intervene and catch it for you. I call it driving god mode cos that's how it makes you look!

  8. I think its pretty good on the R26 TBH. You can really get some angles going before it interjects. I left it active on a trackday and it was pretty good TBH

  9. ON on the road, OFF on the track. Irritated the nuts off me with it on as it cuts power if you get even a small bit of under steer, which seems to be counter productive with the diff.

  10. I didnt have that problem with understeer ? Just didnt mash the throttle the second I had a straight.

  11. I think the traction control is clumsy but the esp is nicely configured. It seems to be late to activate allowing the car to be quite mobile but with quite hard intervention. The worst I have driven is a 350z where it would intervene at the slightest movement meaning it was permanently interfering and interrupting progress, it HAD to be switched off.

  12. I've only ever had the light come on once on the road, and that was too much throttle on a wet roundabout. I just sat there and spun the wheels. Other than that, you have to work it pretty hard to get it to appear (unless you're in an icy car park... lots of beeping then!).

It'll come on on a wet track quite easily (in sports mode); especially on long sweeping bends where you're getting on the power. In the dry I don't think it's ever even blinked at me!

  13. Yeah, the TC is the ASR part.

It says in my manual that the system will brake a front wheel and cut the power under loss of traction, separately from understeer control.

I can definitely notice a difference between having the system off and on, even though with it on, the light hardly ever comes on. What I'm saying is, I think the system is doing something, sometimes, without lighting the dash. This is slowing the car or stopping the diff working so quickly and thus reducing grip/increasing understeer.

It's not an obvious loss of power or a wheel brake that I can feel. It feels more like I have more lag, less urgency in the power delivery with it on.

  14. I've thought this too, it intervenes in the back ground without the dash light flickering.

Im not certain but I've always suspected it, maybe its becasue it also seems to stop the LSD from being as effective as it should when the sytems on. When you turn it off it feels like theres more grip and your can exit a corner harder and quicker, its hard to explain but I get where your coming from mate
