Code reader app?

  1. Is anyone aware of a diagnostic / code reader type app to get a rough sense of any diagnostic faults on Renaults?

A family member was suggesting you can get such a thing but I wasn't aware myself.

Essentially it's for me to use when going to view a car for sale through a (non dealership) garage

  2. I think you may be looking for the Torque Pro App for Android phones.....
It works using a bluetooth connector via the OBD11 port.

  3. Ah thanks I shall check that out

  4. Yeah you'd need an elm 327 Bluetooth adapter or the wifi version if using an iphone. I use dashcommand on my iphone. The adapter can be had for less than a tenner on eBay.

  5. Fantastic - thanks!

  6. Recommend this app also  dont pay for apps though!! download the ipa file online! (if you have iphone that is)

  7. What do I do then? Just download the ipa file using safari or something?

  8. Don't think you can unless your jail broken? Correct me if I'm wrong.

  9. yeah download it using your laptop, then just import it into iTunes then put it onto your phone

  10. Well I shall certainly give it a go and see if it works

    Thanks for the advice!

  11. works for me all the time

  12. I've ordered the wifi scanner for the iPhone now. Looking forward to giving it a go.

How much info will it give me, does it give enough of a description of fault codes to know what the problem areas are?

  13. It gives a basic description. But once you get the code google is your friend. You can find out what it means and what causes it. You can view data from pretty much every sensor on the car too.

  14. Rev on ios

  15. Thanks Joe that's just what I need as I'm going to use it when viewing a car to buy soon

  16. Yeah I wondered whether it might take a bit of tinkering. So I can I set it up on another car also to test it out?

  17. Yup. Once you've linked it up and entered the numbers into your wifi settings it stores them and then connects easily every time after. No matter what vehicle

  18. Oh that's great! It looks like a good app!

  19. Yeah it is. I always preferred the look of torque but it's only available for android. Dashcommand is brilliant though. I often check boost pressure and intake temps when on a spirited drive. Have my phone mounted on the windscreen.

You can set up custom gauges etc.
