Hi All, My name is Tom, I'm 21 & I'm the proud owner of a Megane 250. I've owned it for about 4 months now & I am loving it, it is by far the best car I've had. (My previous cars were a 1.25 Fiesta Zetec & a 1.4TFSI Ibiza Cupra - 180bhp & 7 speed DSG) After about 7 months of owning the Cupra I decided that I wanted a car with a "proper" gearbox again. So the hunt for a new car began, having been to the nurburgring last autumn and being a passenger in a 250 (albeit modified, it was in the front of my mind as an option) Then I came across a Megane 250 about 10 miles down the road from me at a Renault / Nissan garage. It is the CUP, with the FF options (climate control, bluetooth, keyless, etc), it also has leather recaros, light pack (xenons, autolights, autowipers, etc), front & rear parking sensors, renaultsport monitor, arkamys speaker upgrade & some renaultsport mats (it's the small things that matter!). It also has the 18" alloys not the 19" (I prefer the 18"s!) When I bought it they replaced the tyres with some new ones, sadly they were Sunny SN3970's... So the first thing I did was get rid of them & put on some new PS3's. So, enough talking, here are some photos. With one of my mates, his VRS has 246bhp (Dyno verified) : After a quick wash, outside my house (after the roof was wrapped in black): My best attempt at being economical, after a very very dull drive home (please ignore the smear marks, the car needed a clean) : Cheers, Tom
Hi dinn, thank you. It was a grand total of £105 more than my fiesta! But the cupra I had before this was cheaper to insure than the fiesta... strange world!
Thanks matty, I did think about it. but then I would want to do the diamond on the front and then all of the lettering on the back!
Welcome good to have some more younger 250 drivers . My insurance is 750 with a claim and I'm 22 so it can be done ! Nice looking car at least you got rid of the ditchfinders! Haha
Nothing is planned yet. I will probably wait until I need to take out new insurance, as my current insurer isn't very mod friendly. If I did, it wouldn't be much more than an exhaust, KW / nitron coilovers and then a remap. Also, it came with an extended Renault warranty, which has already come in handy for a few minor things! So I don't want to modify it and then lose this safety net as I am currently on the look out for a house, which means keeping spending to a minimum
Nice car mate, kudos at 21 for going for something with a bit of class lol These must be better on fuel than the MkII I guess? I can't get mine over 30mpg no matter how I drive, even with new plugs, throttle body & serviced. Sounds like you got all the options on the spec sheet as well. Impressed.
Hi Xanda, thank you. The best that I have gotten is 36.1 but it was a bit of a economy test really! Staying out of boost and using the cruise control. I'm averaging high 20's at the minute but that is on a 10 minute drive to work & then back again. The lowest I've seen it is about 16 if I remember correctly... Yep, it appeared to have everything. The only things that I am aware that it hasn't got is the sunroof (I wouldn't use it anyway), 19 alloys and the sat nav. But I think that in the 250 it was either the satnav or the Renaultsport monitor (which I have got!) Someone will probably be along to tell me that there are some other options, but it is everything that I wanted and more!
Most i've had on a good run up the m11 and m25 in like 50mph and 70 limits is 33-34 steadily. So you did well but yep if you do short journeys you'll get high 20's. I bought mine when I was 20 nobody could believe i could insure it . Michelins are the way forward
