250 brake disc lifespan

  1. What kind of mileage can you expect from a 250 cup chassis brake discs On the front and back? I've got 42500 miles and have replaced pads on the front at about 30 . I was just about to change the back pads but the discs look a bit worn . I really don't want to have to replace them! Any idea how many miles they should take? I wouldn't have thought the back would go before the fronts
    Cheers

  2. Too many hand brake turns

  3. Front discs done on mine @ 42k
rear could do with been done but will get another 6 months out of them.
Pads done all round every year.

  4. I just did fronts and backs at 37k the fronts were nearly shot but the rears had quite a bit more in them ........just thought I may as well

  5. Haha I wish ! I'm nice to it as well !

My fronts look absolutely fine but the backs just look a bit rusty and dead , didn't want to have to change them yet as expensive !!

  6. replaced my front and back discs + pads at 32k with still 20% left. so probably looking at 45k

  7. I have 39k miles on mine. Still factory fitted discs and pads changed by previous owner at 28k miles.

  8. Seriously, new pads all round once a year? How many miles we talking, and is that with track work?

  9. I'm on 28k and on original discs. Fronts are looking very good especially given I've done 5 trackdays at Llandow and it's a hard track on the brakes. Rears are looking rustier but I've taken the lip off the discs all round and they look much better as a result.

Changed my first set of fronts at 10k, used RC5+ for a while and changed them back to standard fronts at around 20k ish. I'm still using the original rear pads.

  10. How did you manage to take the lips off ?

  11. Grinding wheel??

  12. I just meant the rust on the lip. It literally came off by pushing it with my hands. Coarse sandpaper did the trick on everything that didn't just come away.

  13. I normally use this or a sanding wheel to take it off so it's flush with the disc face.

  14. @framerate I'm thing of a llandow day when you going next? Pm off thread prob best

Instead of starting a new thread, how much more life do you guys reckon I've got left in these rear discs?

My first set of front discs done 24k IIRC, 2nd Set have done less than 9k now and are looking to be replaced. Also onto my 2nd set of discs in less than 35k

FWIW i have went through several sets of front pads, Most being aggressive track/race pads.
