Hi all, new member here with a question, i have just bought a 06 plate 225 but im unsure whether it may actually be a cup? It has the anthracite wheels and wing mirrors from the cup, but has full leather and climate control. The brembos are silver suggesting not being a cup, however the TC does not re-engage at 30mph suggesting it may actually be!! No sunroof and xenons also point towards it being a cup. can anyone tell me a surefire way of telling either way Cheers Duncs
silver calipers mean bugger all my cup has sliver calipers too. if the tc stays off above 30 it's a good start lol. mine also has a sticker in the door way that says 225 cup
Just had a look inside the door, no cup sticker on mine. Im not hugely bothered if its not, its a clean, low milage, FSH car for not much money, being a cup would just be a bonus!!!!
Mine has silver callipers too, however as above my TC stays off above 30mph and mine has a sticker in the drivers door shut saying it's a cup.
Doesn't it state cup or not on the V5C? I.e 'RenaultSport Megane 225 Cup'. Regarding the TC staying off, that can easily be switched off by any mapper or even DIY with an RSTuner so perhaps it's had some map work in the past if not a cup?
Reg is ML06 XAO The v5 doesn't say cup, however I have very little faith in the dvla to get even the simplest detail correct
What does the sticker on the drivers door shut say? ... also if you know anyone with a 225 or a 225 cup.. park them side by side.. the cups are a little lower 10mm or so and you can see the difference in the height of the wing mirrors..
Cup pack on it? I got told mine has the cup pack, as with all others matching wheels mirrors, tc stays off, mine was totally standard when i got it but i have no cup on any documents or stickers
Isn't what is on the V5 down to what the dealer fills out when registering the car? But I wouldn't take what is written on the V5 as correct because one of my mates bought a Fiesta ST in Molten Orange and on the V5 it says that it is Green. Not sure how they managed that as you can't even get a Green ST in the UK although you can in the states.
The only true test is to turn off traction control and drive over 30mph... if TC turns back on then it does not have the CUP pack, if it stays off then it does have it. Mine is not a CUP but has the suspension pack, I did read that it was fitted as standard after 2005.
So you want to know. I can tell you straight from the horse’s mouth exactly what you have there. Last week i contacted Renaults head office and 2 days later they gave me a complete run down of what models came out between 2005 and 2006. It’s a minefield as the original 225 got a bad press for its handling so they sorted it with the limited ‘trophy’ edition in 2004 but then they wanted a ‘Cup’ version and so that was next off the production line however then there was a call for options for the interior of the trophy but the upgrades the cup had. So next the ‘cup chassis pack’ was born and you could have it with any options that the trophy had on the inside but had the ‘cup’ upgrades on the chassis (outside). The sticker on the pillar that just says 225 means it’s not a cup but if you have the plush interior and then brembo’s multi spoke etc it has the Cup pack with any option the first owner wanted. Mine chose multi cd changer and climate control. In effect you have the best 225 available as directly after that the R26 was born but all they did was stick another 5BHP a few stickers but the main difference a LSD. The interior if you had this option is plusher than the R26 for sure. They were produced in phase 1 or Phase2. The phase 1 had the silver bembo and the phase 2 the red although many painted the silvers to red and i do know one who painted his silver from red confusing the feck out of everyone as if it was not confusing enough. So you have the ‘Cup Pack’ and either optional extras or the full Lux pack with it. I would imagine yours is a phase 2. I think just about everyone’s enquiries are between these dates as Renault were panicking to save the Megane sales and they just about pulled it off in time. a very quick way is to see if the esp stays switched off over 30 and if it does it is either a cup or cup pack. Next......if you are sitting in rather plush surroundings its a cup pack.... Conversation with Renault HO...
woops...i meant TC not esp ...now you got me going...LOL I was going for the trophy but with it only in silver ( which to me is just about the most boring colour available...) i prefered the blood orange and to my immense pleasure they never carried the colour on to the R26 making it even more unique . i have yet to see an orange sport phase 1 yet and i am well happy...
So the general consensus is it's a normal 225 but with the cup pack? TBH I'm happy with that I have to go to Renault later today anyway so I might get them to look through their system and see what it says about options on there. In other news, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! Been running around in sensible brand new VAG diesels for a couple of years and to go back to something a bit roudy is so much fun, going to cost me a fortune in fuel tho!!
I was too. You have the up rated gubbings underneath and the palace inside. Similar to the Trophy really it's just that you had options and with many you either had the 6 CD changer or the climate control but you had the option of anything really....I forgot to mention mine had the CD player and climate control and it is automatic too and i forgot to mention the Xenons i have and with the colour well happy... Some just like to have the limited editions in the Trophy and R26 but if you have these packs they are really rare. Remember too to many the newer the vehicle or registration is everything not really caring whether its the better version or not but the people in the know about Renault Meganes no that it might have a 2014 plate but their R26 is much better...
I completely agree, my other car is a 14 plate Seat Leon 2.0TDi, and while it is absolutely brilliant at what it does (drove it across Germany last week, averaged 140kph/46mpg!!), it leaves me cold to drive. It is pretty much devoid of character.
***UPDATE*** So i went to my local dealer to pick up a few bits n pieces. While i was there, i gave the parts guy my VIN to have a look on their system and see what came up. It shows as a RS225, ordered with the "extreme pack" Now for the strange part. The parts guy wasn't sure what the extreme pack was, so he directed me to the sales guys. They both insist that such a pack has never existed and cant explain why its on the Renault system? Anyone on here know about the extreme pack and what it comprises of?
never heard of an extreme pack lol generally the cups came with the r26 wheels, drilled discs with brembos, tc that stays off above 30, better suspension, grey mirrors and blue/grey fabric sports seats.
The r26 didn't come out till 07 plate? There was the 225 f1 edition which had the recaros (if I'm not mistaken this was the first model with recaros which you couldn't get before) and a 1 off colour (plus four black ones that were built by mistake.. 2 of them now written off) and a limited run, then a couple of years later was the r26 (similar to the 225 f1, but with a revised exhaust hence the extra 5hp and the LSD and limited colours) again limited run, then the r26 lux models (full leather recaros, keyless, handsfree, 1 off colours and yet again even more limited run) then shortly after the r26r... which requires no explanation. As for the interior... I'd take the standard r26 interior over the 225 leather interior any day.. the recaros hold you in place and are more comfortable by a long shot... just the alacantara is a pain.
Also one of the few options you couldn't order the cup chassis with was a sunroof.. so if you spot any megs with a sunroof and cup chassis that won't be a factory or dealer fit...
Ok, so mine has:- xenons silver brembos with drilled discs anthracite mirrors and wheels no sunroof climate full leather TC stays off over 30 This is one of the stickers inside the door Now a bit of googling brings up an old thread from another forum which says the first 4 digits refer to the model type being 3 door with cup pack http://www.meganesport.net/community/archive/index.php/t-2531.html note also that on the sticker in the additional equipment bit of the sticker (line 2 RHS) it says EPACKP so this could refer to the Extreme pack the dealer talked of? the deeper I dig, the more confused i get
Horses for courses i guess about comfort The 225 F1 is a bit of a mystery?. My vin num starts with V F1 so you might think its a phase 1 225 F1 and what you described as its interior. If this is true about this 225 F1 being in the one colour it must be Orange then. I have heard that there were no standard 225 in Orange. If anyone has a orange phase 1 it might be interesting to find out whether it holds the same start of the VIN number as in F1. However the head office never stated mine as an F1 but then perhaps the chassis pack and the options stated were known as the F1? Maybe mine did have the silly stickers but were taken off....Minefield...Typical French! Anyone got a Orange phase 1 225 it could be that only colour apart from a few black ones you said?
Sorry but Unfortunately The 225 f1 is blue not orange and has blue and black recaros seats have a look in the link best keep guessing for now http://www.allvehicles.co.uk/lx06wdw_renaultsport_megane _225_f1_team.htm
They did make the ph1 in inferno (orange) not huge numbers of those tbf. The 225 f1 was only made in blue (I can't remember what colour blue) and 4 black ones and was a ph2 front to it I believe with silver brembos... You can see all the renault model lines and build numbers on the heritage bit of thw renaultsport site http://www.renaultsport.co.uk/roadcars/heritage
You can't go by that. Believe me as i have been on to head office ( i can pass on the e mail if you wish) . Nothing round that period made sence like you said a few black one's...Why?. They experimented on so many options probably confusing themselves and saying sod it lets call it a R26. I really am not that bothered if it is a F1 or not but if so it would benefit others as this thread crops up all the time with newbies and nobody ever has concrete evidence because there is always somebody who has a car that does not fit the bill. I read somewhere that there were no bog standard oranges only cups or cup packs but then again who knows The attachment with the colour confirmation for a 225 F1 is only from 2006 and only phase 2 mine was on a 55 plate (Nov 05) phase 1... My Vin number starts with F1 now that maybe just total coincidence and maybe they all did but we could rule it one way or another with a standard 225 .
Apologies it says 2005 but no difference as where does it actually say which one 's are F1's? it is just all option packs and it may be a case they were all F1's from 2005 onwards and before only 2004 were not classified as F1's. This may well be the case as its when renault had won the F1 championship. One thing is for sure if the options are right my one is the only orange F1 with climate control...LOL
All French/Renault vehicle VIN numbers start with VF1 or VR1... its how a vehicles country of origin is traced.
I used to sell renaults at london west and was the dealers unofficial renaultsport specialist at the time these were released.. the 4 black ones were built by mistake in rhd... the 225 f1 edition was made in black for the rest of europe.. uk was the only market to get the ultra blue ones... the heritage site is pretty accurate.. the f1 is listed as a megane f1 edition regardless... even if you search it on insurance sites etc you will see an f1 edition... as you say not huge differences between an f1 and a 225... just the colour, seats and a couple of other little bits that I can't remember. I know the 225 f1 was the first of the ph2 models with the face lift. The attachment is from "2004-2008" of the heritage site and if you look at the pics in there thats the ph1... like I say the entire renaultsport model line up is on the heritage site.. its quite a fun read... I know that less than 80 versions my car in the spec I've got were built for the uk lol
Yup, he has, what I'm trying to ascertain now is whether it is fitted with the cup pack. If not then the cup parts fitted (ie mirrors and wheels) are aftermarket and should be declared to my insurer. I would also like to know if it has the cup chassis as a factory option.
