Civic Type R

  1. I took one for a test drive although a bit daft with a broken ankle on the mend so it was a quick one and it was quick ,damn quick . Has anyone had one?

  2. standard or with mods ?.

  3. EP3 or FN2? I can only assume from your impressive comments it was the EP3 as I've driven an FN2 and thought it was gutless compared to my, at the time, standard 197.

No experience with the EP3 but always had a soft spot for them, I hear the engines are literally indestructible and can be boosted to near 300bhp on stock internals.

  4. I was considering UFO type R, but apart of big boot I can't really see any advantage over RS 250/265.

  5. Yes, and EP3. The reviews were superb but the later models were not as good. I would only consider the EP3 although most have a few miles on the clock. I am not sure how many horses you could improve on as it's non turbo but the Torque was superb for a standard.

  6. Torque? In a civic?

  7. I've had 2

Proper bullet proof engines , had one with 180k miles on it and pulled like a train

Completely different car to the megane , you have to proper thrash them .. Which results in big smiles lol

  8. I had a charged one, had a hondata ecu, Jackson racing manifold and charger, 12 psi of boost, made 323bhp on stock internals, driving position is perfect and handling is really predictable, seen off everything including e92 m3, c63 AMG, my friend has a carbon clad.....wings,boot, bonnet, ect with almost 500bhp. That's immense.

  9. Great engine but bugger all torque. Bomb proof though, very reliable cars.

  10. he...he...he...

  11. Never had one and its always been a car on my bucket list. now the EP3 are under 4K i am tempted. What to look out for when viewing chaps?

  12. I'm not certain about the previous ones but the up coming type r is on my radar, I'm tempted to make the switch if they look that good and have the power Honda claim.

  13. I have one as my daily drive and it's pretty good, sticks to the roads and you can take off in 2nd gear without bogging down, might sell it soon to get a bigger family car, mine has had the timing chain done not so long ago by main honda dealers, drives like newe, one thing to look for when buying a type r

  14. Yours a EP3?

  15. Saw one on the stand at goodwood... does look good!

  16. My mate has a pre facelift ep3 it starting to look a bit dated in my opinion but it is pretty impressive when a 12 year old car with 120000 on clock can stil go so strong the engines seem bulletproof

  17. depends on how the engine and that is with any car has been kept. My old ford capri had done 200,000 mls and 28 years old and was only pulling 10 BHP less than new. Most engines in fact cars are bullit proof . The Renault engine is bullit proof if only because they have their engines in F1 so they can't afford to have crap engines out there as it defeats the object of the F1 product. Honda was the same when they bought the Type R out as they too were in F1 at the time. Not a coincidence that many still think the best type R was the first one well that is when honda was in F1 and then they pull out and the one's after that are not as good as the first.

Its Renault V Mercedes engines in F1 and on the streets they probably are at their best at present..

  18. has as the spoiler kept the devilish lights at the back and 4 tail pipes or is it toned down from the concept I've seen...

  19. They had estate BTCC model at Goodwood :tongueout:

  20. Being honest I only saw it from the front.. but all the marketing oics were showing the quad xaust .. I was more interested in the old nsx they had on show lol

  21. Yeah mines an ep3 facelift

  22. I almost crashed my car staring at an NSX lol

  23. You have the best one. To me unless the new has a better reputation than the one before i take the model which is the best even if it's 3 generations back but obviously well looked after

  24. I'm lucky enough to own both (my fiancé uses the civic) ours is a black facelift EP3 premier edition which has recaros, sat nav, factory tints etc.

I personally prefer the R26, the chassis in particular is a lot better in my eyes. However the civic has a naturally aspirated charm, more reliable, less interior creaks and sounds great.

I love them both! ejeje6ub.jpg

  25. The ep3 is better made although a mate of mine has an FN2 and says that rattles and creaks more than my R26...altho it's made in Swindon apparently so that isn't gonna help

  26. Saying that I had to fit a front engine bush insert as mine had a bit of movement, everything shakes now when stationary on idle but handling has improved a bit, got a gearbox insert to fit but don't think I am, vibration I'm getting now is enough
