Just a few things

  1. I picked up my megane r26 the other day and I'm always looking for noises and knocks etc! Is it normal for the gear stick to vibrate slightly in 1st and 2nd? The car also smells really strongly of fuel when sitting in traffic, and the steering squeaks when turning to park etc. the steering arm was replaced last September. Are all of these things normal or have I got myself a can of very expensive worms waiting to be opened?
    Thanks!

  2. It also makes a clicking noise when turning to the left when I'm moving! I hope I'm just being over cautious and it's nothing but I thought I'd ask people in the know!

  3. Hello Buddy,

First of all does the steering self centre and does it feel stiff at all? May be worth checking your hub bearings for a start. This could be causing the squeaking.

I'm not sure what you mean about the gear stick vibrating. It shouldn't really smell of fuel though especially once its warm.

  4. It kind of feels like the stick is juddering in 1st and 2nd. I'm taking it to 519 in Bedford for a service next week. And yeah it stinks like neat fuel all the time, the mpg is fine and apparently it's had a new backbox but I think something is a bit off with it! The steering feels fine apart from the tracking being a country mile out! Thanks for the advice though, I'll give it a good look over!

  5. Ahh Danny will look after you. If there's any issues i'm sure he'll look into them for you.

  6. All booked in, he seems like a sound guy! I know this is going to sound silly but I hadn't actually looked at this 'new back box' on my car. Just jacked it up to discover it has a distinct lack of back box hence the smell and noise! Will it still pass the mot?

  7. With a back box chop it should still pass, although if it smells of fuel i imagine its decatted and if it is it will fail the emissions test

  8. It's just had a back box chop so it should be fine!

  9. it will pass as mine did yesterday with no back box

  10. Mine has no boxes and doesn't smell of fuel so it certainly shouldn't with just a back box chop. Passed the MOT emissions by a mile last month too. Steering clicking is probably a driveshaft, the CV boots come loose too, all the grease disappears and the joint dries up. Common problems that's aren't too expensive to fix, tbh get the right garage and not much on the R26 is that expensive at all.
