Flashing engine management light in traffic. Injectors? Cars done 30k

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by jpmad4it, Jun 18, 2014.

  1. Hi all

I know there have been plenty of threads about injectors, but thought I'd get some advice for my situation.

    Cars done 30k. 07 plate.

The engine management light starts flashing when I'm sat in traffic, its usually very soon after I've started the car up (5 mins ish). The revs at idle are around 900.

Theres no 'check injection' message, and once I get out of the traffic and give the car some acceleration the light stops flashing and goes off.

If I plug it in what kind of error codes relate to faults with coil, injector(s), boost solenoid valve, pressure sensor, etc......I've read that faults with any of these can cause the flashing engine management light? Just need to know what I'm looking for.

I've spoke to Ed on here about getting the injectors cleaned so I know the cost for that, but what are the likely costs of the other parts for the coil, boost solenoid valve etc if they are at fault?

    any help would be great.

    Cheers
    Jp

It's pretty easy to tell if it's an injector - I've found if you let the car warm up and just listen to the exhaust you can simply hear it.

I'd check the coils next after that - I just carry a new one of each now for peace of mind!

Fault code will show cylinder * misfire - easiest thing to do if you get a fault code is to swap the coils around and run around for a few days and see if the fault follows that coil. if it does easy peasy, if not then chuck a new injector at it - if that solves it I would then personally replace the other 3.

  3. Thanks for the quick reply !

What kind of noise should I listen out for on the exhaust?

And you're gonna laugh now, but where are the coils located ?!? Are they easy to get to?

Engine cover off and one bolt each!

Listen for a cough or fart sound.

If you haven't got one buy a ten quid Bluetooth obd reader and read the Fault on your phone.

Not needed to get the big guns code reader out for ages!

  5. Definitely an injector that....

  6. What app you using for fault code reading?
