Hi, Is the air con in the meganes known to be quite poor? I had mine regassed late last year but it still is bad. Dunno if it might need new parts. It's a 2007 R26 on just over 60k miles. I know nothing about how air conditioning works in a car so thought I'd ask.
-This is a near impossible situation to help on without seeing the vehicle. Yes you most likely have low gas pressure resulting in poor to no performance from the HVAC but it'll need leak testing before anyone re-gasses it other wise you'll just be re-gassing it every so many months (which can get expensive). Ideally you will need to take the car to (or call out) an A/C specialist who can leak test correctly (Note: a handheld "sniff" tester doesn't always show up an extremely small leak so UV may be a better route to explore). If you're close to or fancy the trip to Nottingham pop in and i'll gladly take a look for you. Mick
Once gassed (and leak free) you need to use the AC every so often, at least, as it circulates oils in the pipes to stop them corroding and leaking (or something like that). Our infrequent heat means most people rarely use it and the systems can corrode //
Air con is a can of worms on these - I've finally got to the bottom of mine. Even when fully charged and in perfect working order it's not the strongest of systems to be fair - When I go anywhere with my mate in his golf it's chuffing freezing!
Have to agree with Daz i have just had a new condensor fitted to my car and re gassed so everything is as good as its going to get and i would not say its really that great my sister has a mondeo st tdci and you need a jacket on when she puts her air con on its baltic
I think i'll get mine serviced at my trusted local garage. I get the impression that the car wasn't that well looked after before I bought it last year. Wouldn't be surprised if it's never been regassed. It makes a slight noise when it's on too, nothing too loud or 'bad' sounding but I just get a feeling it's not meant to make the noise.
mine started making a noise a few weeks ago, sounded like a slightly noisy bearing or something. I had it regassed this morning (groupon £25 deal, bargain) and the noise has gone. There were no leaks or faults, but there was no gas or oil in the system either!
