Guys, Are there any known gearbox issues on the 250/265? I am not getting any crunches or anything, but when I go through the gears when engaging there is a real "clack" type sound, it is metallic. But again, no crunching it just sounds "messy". Any idea what this could be? It definitely didn't do this before...Only have 13k on the clock, 2013 car.
A quick google search will reveal this is a very common issue with the 250s, it's more discussed on the Aussie forums than here but I've put a thread up myself last year about the same thing. Most say its sounds like a sequential box so love it but to me it sounds like the inner gears are about to escape the casing in a rather explosive fashion, I hate it. If I was listening to an older car I'd say it sounds like the mesh between the final drive is too large and as your coming on and off power it's taking up the slack in the teeth, but surely Renault wouldn't make such a mistake.
I can hear a bit on a clunk noise when changing into 2nd (only when the windows are down)- http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread.php?2130-Broken-gearbox-mount-rear-bolt&highlight=gearbox+mount -
It sounds awful, especially driving through town, people probably think I can't shift gears properly... Have Renault acknowledged an issue? Anyone had this fixed under warranty?
Its definitely not the linkage, shift the stick with the engine off and you'll hear nothing. When your cruising gently come on and off the throttle and it's audible without going near the gearstick. Gearbox internals are at fault I reckon.
Mine has always done this I used to worry but it's normal. My sister has a gt tce 180 and this does it also !
Hmmm, I had a clio 200 previous and don't recall this sound. Anyway I will drive it and forget about it, if it dies, it is under warranty
Never really noticed it before but now the weathers getting better had my windows down and started to notice it. Was getting worried but glad to hear im not the only who gets it. Although i do find it annoying as like you say makes people think u cant change gear properly. Find if you change gear slowly doesn't make a sound
Hi there, I'm new member. I don't want to start new topic so I will ask here what type of oil are you guys using for gearbox in RS 250 hp? Last year when it was getting colder outside it was really hard to change gears so this year I plan to change oil asap. I heard about Motul 300 75W90, some opinions? I need it for normal daily rides in the city, no racing. I'd appreciate some comments.
Just renault branded gear oil if it's just basic road use. Pop in to your local dealer and they'll sort you out the correct oil.
