Megane 250 turbo

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Sammy_2007, Aug 1, 2013.

  1. Hi guys I was wondering what the score was with fitting a megane 250 turbo to my 225, what is needed and if I would have to change any think? I'm currently running a full exhaust with decat , forge fmic , forge rad, forge dump valve, forge pistons and rods , but standard turbo and was wondering what I would do to take it to the next step can anyone help!!!!

  2. Straight fit I've been told.

  3. It is a straight fit as far as I know, but you might need the manifold aswell. But with that spec why are you going for a 250 turbo when you can something better?

Saying that though the 250 setup is amazing..

  4. 250 turbo is a straight fit, I've got one coming for the weekend so it'll be going on.

lucky man, 250 turbo and 250 rods/pistons is where its at.

Don't you need the TB as well which requires a different plug from the loom?

  7. The 250 turbo is a straight swap with no problems. they both use the same manifold and decat pipe and theres no need to swap the throttle body.

the turbine housing on 225/250 turbos is very restrictive.
    also youll need bigger injectors.

  8. Hi guys what injectors will I need and were could I get them from? plus we're are people sourcing there 250 turbo from what for of power figures would you be looking at getting?

My bad I was on about the inlet manifold. Misread Luke.'s post.

Injectors will be the same for both engines so no need to worry about them.

  10. injectors are not the same from both engines
you will have to get siemens deka 4's 630cc (stubby ones. cant remember impedance) and they will need mapped/calibrated to suit the vehicle.

i think their is a 250 turbo on ebay just now.

  11. Are the OEM 250 turbos Mitsubishi units? How do they compare with a Garret or hybrid MkII unit (price and performance)?

  12. Meg 225 Engine with 250 Rods and Pistons and 630cc Injectors made 318bhp and 330ftlbs.. Can't be certain how much it cost overall but it's a good reliable and potentially hassle free setup..

  13. yeah td04 turbo is a mitsubishi unit, but for some reason renault have used a turbine housing from a micro machine so the egts go through the roof very quickly.
iv been bolt the AET stage 2 turbo will flow 400bhp on a volvo, but our turbine housing is the issue.

    what garrett turbo?

  14. I'm not familiar with the different garrett units - I've just heard that name mentioned a lot in terms of up-rated turbos, along with the hybrid route, and wondered what the pros/cons of each option are. Purely out of an interest in mechanical bits and pieces

Might Renault have specified a smaller turbine housing to improve spin up times (reduce lag)?

    That sounds ideal to me.

  16. Once my 250 turbo arrives, I'll get photos of them side by side to see if there's any visual difference in size.

  17. I seen one on eBay for 660 but wasn't sure if its would be any good. we're would the best place to get injectors? What sort of power would I expected off the turbo?

One thing I would like to say everyone seems a lot more helpful on this forum than the other megane forum so glad I signed up to this one :-)

  18. You could get the 250 injectors from Renault if you have a money tree..

Plenty of Injector companies about, have a google..

  19. I don't see the point in buying 250 injectors. May as well buy 630's from Rs Tuning or they can be bought on eBay too.

  20. 250 injectors dont fit the 225 manifold! just ask RSTuning as they tried it on mark_1873 car a couple of months ago!!!

As long as you don't get stung for import duty.

Best getting them from RS Tuning imo

  22. Even with import duty and VAT they are still £40 cheaper. I'll be getting mine from there, don't see any point in lining someone elses pocket if I can sort them myself.

  23. Ktec charge £358 quid for their 630cc injectors!

Wouldn't a hybrid be more beneficial than a 250 turbo?

Lol at jtecs prices as per.

  25. Yeah they were too long or something, though a hybrid 250 turbo would be tasty

  26. A hybrid would be better but the price difference is over double and a 250 turbo is more then upto the job, it'll hold the torque longer at the top of the rev range more than a 225 unit. I paid £300 for a 250 turbo

  28. I see! RST and I quote said they are good for 330hp. You've changed my mind on it now, I want one lol .
Was yours a new or used unit pal?

  29. This^. I contacted a couple of the places selling them on eBay (from the US) and neither of them supplied flow matched sets.
It might not make a massive difference, but if you're paying all that money you might as well spend a little more and get peace of mind?

  30. After doing some research and looking at power graphs, why do remaped 250's make shit loads more torque than a hybrid 225...Is that down to the engine or turbo?
Both make the same power ~300, but a the RS250 makes about 40+ more torque?

  31. Hybrid turbos make a fair chunk of torque. Probably the same if not more than the 250/265.

  32. Vise versa mate, 250's are making more torque i've found

The hybrid 225 / 230's can make plenty more torque but they are limited to save bending engine components, the 250 internals are stronger.

  34. Thanks for the info Gray . In terms of power curve and spool they are quite identical too? Just the price difference I suppose.

  35. Im waiting on my turbo coming back from AET at the moment, but with the fully forged engine, cams and all the bolt on mods, we should see what a hybrid turbo is capable of on a mk2.
also the 250 has stronger internal as vvt and a slightly bigger turbo as standard, so it will make more than a 225...

  36. Can't wait to see, ill sub your build thread. Which cams are they?

  37. I run catcams 421's with the raised idle, etc...

ill start a thread once iv fitted the turbo

  38. Steve is it fair to say that fitting the likes of catcams to our turbo'd engines will produce as good gains as what they do in the n/a cars?
