250 Spacers

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by Ferg, May 25, 2014.

  1. I've got some KW V3s on order and once fitted I may want to space the wheels out.

Not a silly amount but something like 10/15mm.

I've had a search and can't find anything previously discussed. What are people running? Where did you get them from? Any prices? Pics?

H&R do a range of spacers for the Megane.

  3. I spent ages looking pal. ended up buying some universal spacers (which had renault in brackets for fitment) went 20mm on back and 10mm on front, dont forget you then need wheel bolts 20mm longer for back and 10mm longer for front. i got the lot off ebay and in total cost me about 90 quid with new lockers.
got no pics on here but if you're on instagram my username is trophyjoe and i have pics on there of the car. no rubbing whatsoever with them on either, i wouldnt go any less as it would hardly be noticable

  4. Ok cheers matey.

I'll go check your insta now.

    Any particular shop on eBay?

  5. Is it noticeable any improvement in handling?

  6. i just typed renault spacers in ebay, ordered fronts and backs from 2 different places. not noticed any difference in handling from the spacers because i had some cooksports fitted at the same time so i put the improvement down to them.

No, on stock suspension it ruins it. I ran spacers on track for 15 minutes then removed and sold them, that's on stock suspension though, decent coilovers should be ok with them tbh

  8. I don't see how what suspension you have fitted should make spacers any less bad. If anything, lower would only amplify their effect on scrub radius.

It's a trade-off - an increase in track should provide my grip, but that's at the expense of scrub radius and some other suspension geometry.

The way I look at it is, Renault spent a lot of time getting the king pin offset as low as possible - why waste that with spacers.

  9. I stuck lower offset wheels on and it felt really unstable at the back. That was only a ~ 12mm spacing. But the cars look epic on coilovers and 20mm spacers, it's got to be said.

OP: did you get the coilovers from Larkspeed, or was there somewhere cheaper?

  10. because 99 percent of people on here use their car for going to the shops and b road blasts, not trying to save 50000th of a second on a lap of spa maybe?

ps i dont believe that anyone on here can tell the dfference from a 10-20mm spacer to say it 'ruins' the handling.

  11. Yeah, Renault spent all that time and money developing the perfohub system to save 50000th of a second at Spa.

LOL, Yeah ok. What track experience do you have then?

Spacers ruin the adjustability and the ease of being able to rotate the rear end, Understeers more as well. Infact the car just feels crap

  13. Its easilly noticable, mainly understear at relatively low speeds.

I had spacers on my V3s. Not for long, increased understeer and make the car noticeably more jittery.

  15. So technically. If I don't want upgrade suspension, it is no point to spend money for spacers only as it will ruin handling.

  16. Yeah ordered through Larkspeed. They've been on order for 4 weeks now and been told the earliest delivery date will be early June. Production problems in Germany apparently. I'm on DN10 at the Ring in July so eager to get them on.

  17. I cant say I noticed any difference with spacers on my R26? I drive it hard but havent had it on track, maybe thats where the differences show?

  18. So what people are saying then, when Renaultsport put different offset wheels on the r26r, they technically made it worse ? After all wheels stuck out more

  19. No because they used different suspension. So was set up different

  20. And r26r has 4mm wider track then the r26 so your not going see much difference anyway.

  21. Just out of curiosity, is the problem that most people put wider spacers on the rear which in turn increases understeer?

Would the problem of ruining the handling still exist if the same size spacers were fitted front & rear?

  22. Nope, i had lower offset wheels, which works the same as spacers, created understeer.

  23. Unsure of the megane but I can't see lower offset wheels drastically effecting the handling, as most race cars run the lowest you can get to widen the track and improve stability.

  24. Race cars are set up to run wider track, road cars arent, hence changes would be needed to the suspension height/stiffness/rebound to gain benefit from the the wider track

  25. The lad saying the r26r is set up for wider stance as it has a different suspension set up, can you please explain the differences in set up as im only aware it has softer spring and damping rates due to the less weight its carrying

  26. The main point is fitting spacers can cause more wear to the wheel bearings.
