I want a oil temp gauge for the 225, is it possible to get it working on a Scangauge or even through an app (must be iPhone)? Or do i need to get a external gauge? (like the VDO ones)
Hi, I'm using this http://www.scantool.net/obdlink-lx.html but I have an Android phone. Oil temp is working. Read more here: http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread.php?2586-Working-OBD2-oil-temperature
Thanks for the reply, but as yours is a 250 i think it's different. I remember a thread some time ago about someone who couldn't get oil temp working on a Meg 225/R26 with scan gauge due to the fact the ECU doesn't read oil temp live or something in those lines
Got oil temp oil pressure gauges on mine very useful as water temp is useless doesn't tell you anything about engine temps
Ok thx for the reply, could you give me some details or a small how-to as in what i exactly need etc?
IMO I'd have to disagree, on the old 197 I had the race technology dash2 fitted with oil temp sender on the filter housing. I could display oil temp and coolant temp right next to each other in digital form and they always closely followed one another. So in basic the coolant temp is usually very closely related to oil temp and vice versa. The only occasions of substantial difference were when initially warming up ( the coolant would reach operating temp far before oil ), long periods of idling or slow moving traffic ( oil temp would rise above coolant level ) and after a hard thrashing the coolant temp would recover far quicker than oil.
Well that's the whole point, right there. When you coolant temp is up, your engine is not really warmed up and ready for honing until the engine oil reaches the normal operating temperature. It's the oil that reduces friction and wear. And depending on a car, it may take up to 10-15 minutes after the coolant has warmed up, for the oil to warm up as well... That's why you want an oil temp gauge.
Well for me the whole point was to keep an eye on increasing oil temperatures in extreme driving conditions ( track days ) to ensure it doesn't exceed the oils limitations.
Does the 225 has a standard plug for an oil temp sensor or do we need the oil house sandwich plate thing? And any recommendations what and where to get?
Thanks again MJ is there a specific size to look out for when buying the sandwich plate? If you have a pic of the placement of your gauge that would be awesome!
That too In short, they really should be putting oil temperature gauges as standard, not the coolant
Modern peugeots have oil temp instead of coolant. What really takes the piss is these new Mercs and Vauxhalls which don't have any temp gauge!
Thanks MJ, the 2 hoses coming from the sandwich plate are going to an oil cooler right? And does it support both oil temp and oil pressure?
Bit of a resurrection here but MJ (or anyone else) have you got data for peak oil temps with no cooler and with oil cooler?
