Gear change indicator and beep

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by harpo, May 9, 2014.

  1. Is it possible that these could've been turned off at the dealers by the previous owner? I don't have the monitor on mine but neither the light nor the beep work (it's a 250)

  2. You sure ur goin high enough?

  3. It should work, if you have monitor you are able to change the threshold of when it beeps, but as you don't have that I assume it's set at a default. Does it work when sport mode is on?

I seem to remember the flash/beep being built into the dials rather than the monitor

  4. Nope, it doesn't work when the sport mode is on either and trust me I've given it a bit of encouragement up to near the redline

  5. Have you hit the limiter?

  6. No I havent

  7. Try it. Because the light/beep is just a fraction before it.

  8. Aha! Got the change indicator lights last night when I pushed it into the redline, not sure it beeped but may have....it was noisy in the cabin and had radio on :-)
Can someone explain the rev limiter to me? What does it do exactly?
I've always stayed out of the redline with cars I've had, have I been overly cautious ?

  9. Stops the engine over revin then its designed to. Otherwise te valves and pistons will end up hitting each other and damaging the engine. Nothing wrong with hitting the limiter but i wouldnt sit there boucning of it all the time or for long periods.

  10. If the gear change beep and light is anything like the Clio then it comes in way past when power and torque has dropped like a lead ballon so is absolutely pointless

  11. I find its more effective to change quite early in the meg to drop it back down into the midrange power band.

  12. But is it ok to rev it right into the red line before changing?

  13. Provided the engine is warmed up, perfectly fine.

  14. Wicked......thanks for the info
