Thinking of selling the Megane

  1. So, after 2 years with the RS250, and 4 years with the 225 before, I am thinking of selling up and leaving Renault.

Tomorrow I'm off to look at a 2007 plate Audi RS4 B7. If the figures all work out then it'll be bye bye France, hello Germany..... The only niggling doubt are the extortionate running costs - £500 tax, 20mpg...... I hope the RS4 is going to be worth the extra outlay!

    Am I mad?

  2. Not mad at all the rs4 is stunning expecially the estate model

  3. It's the Avants I'm looking at - the misus is moaning that we always have to take the dogs out in her Landrover as they don't go in the Megane. An Avant would give me the best of both Worlds - performance and dog-carrying-capability.

  4. Isn't that what land rovers are for???

  5. I'd agree. Unfortunately the missus thinks I should also ferry the smelly, hairy money pits around too.....

  6. Nooooo stay wkth Renault! German cars aren't what they used to be!

  7. But... That V8 exhaust note.....

  8. You'll be doing well to see an average of 20mpg. Mate of mine has a mint 40k 2006 S4 and gets 18mpg combined maximum. We got 23mpg on cruise on motorway trip. A fun blast in it see's single figures with out trying!

But it's worth it, oh yes it's worth it! We looked at a few RS4s but struggled to find one at sensible money that didn't have bad paint or strangely one without the front leather seats splitting at the seams! He settled on the S4 as it met all the criteria without the astronomical running costs of the RS4!

Pics if you get one = Car porn!

  9. But the style of the Renault...

Not mad at all, I spent the day out in the Megane with a friend in his 3.4 Cayman S. Been looking through PH all night at them now

  13. A friends just bought himself a Cayman S - not been out in it, but nice looking cars!

  14. I would never swap Megane RS for "skoda" RS4 :-) Audi just looks not very interesting, as most VAGs.

Amazing car, Very similar to the megane in that it is brilliant performing out the box.

The steering, turn in and gearbox is on another level though, and the noise with a sports exhaust on it, Sounds just like a GT3 RS with the 3.4 engine. Amazing cars, I'm more than convinced that will be my next car

  16. I looked at an RS4 and it was so neglected for the 18k the independent dealer wanted! Choose very carefully and get a manufacturer warranty if you can! I've got a 4.2 S/C and struggle to get 15mpg.. Engine note from the v8 is epic though, it's off for a new exhaust today

  17. So.... Went and had a look at a 2007 plate RS4 with 38k on the clock today..... As fantastic as it was, I won't be getting that one - the exhaust note is just epic, but I can't justify spending £500+ a month on it. Elsewhere I've found another one for sale - 2007 plate with 95k on the clock for £17k - as tempted as I am I think I'll give it a miss with that mileage. HOWEVER...... at the same dealership, for the same price is an 06 plate BMW M6 with 66k on the clock....... Hmmmmm 5l V10.....

  18. Warranty on those can be steep mate as they're similar to the m5 (or same?). Not sure if Jags are your thing but I love mine, the SV8 is a brilliant engine and a fair bit cheaper than the 5.0 XFR, or an XKR can be had for decent money too. With the new exhaust it sounds amazing! You're walking the same path as me, I was set on an M5 until I got a BMW warranty quote of £3k for a year my dealer supplied SV8 was £16k and £699 for a years Jaguar warranty and breakdown assist.

  19. The main dealer service prices on the M6 made me weep - £300 for an oil change, £750 for an interim service and £1200 for a full service. Not to mention rear tyre prices...... Needless to say, I am back at the RS4...... The alternative is an S4 and get it chipped / mapped.....

  20. Lol, look at the XFR/sv8  fuel is pricey, services about the same as Meg, brakes cheaper!

  21. Well.... The deed is done.

Barring any major hiccups, I pick up my new car next Friday - a 2007 plate Misano Red Audi RS4 saloon. 64k on the clock, 1 previous owner, a stack of receipts and invoices and the dreaded DRC suspension problem already sorted.

The dealership offered me a good deal on the Megane (even with the bloody great key mark down the drivers side that I've not got around to having resprayed yet) and it all fell to within my budget, so this afternoon I have paid the deposit etc!

Still trying to justify it to myself (when I chopped in the 225 for the 250 my justification was newer car / warranty etc, can't really say that this time around!), but I'm sure the V8 howl will justify it for me!!

  22. saloon......so the mrs will still be moaning about the dogs!!

  23. There is no justification, just hope the enjoyment outweighs the cost mine is so far..

  24. HaHa! She's remained strangely quiet on the subject........

    I'm sure it will! :tongueout:

  25. (I apologise in advance..)

Your in for a wruff time lol

    (I crack myself up)

  26. You are barking up the wrong tree.

  27. I hope you will enjoy new car.
