Suspected turbo blown

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Joe R26, May 5, 2014.

  1. Was giving the megane some beans earlier when I heard a slight bang and lost all boost pressure. Car runs fine but is smoking and will not boost at all.

No codes stored or engine management light on. I'm 99% its the turbo. Just wondered what anyone else thought?.

Will check the shaft in a bit.

  2. Shouldn't be to expensive if it is the turbo joe, how many miles has it done

  3. Would think if it wasn't boosting it would come up with a boost pressure fault code

  4. Cars only done 61k. I need to get a better scanner on it really. I only quickly used dash command to check for codes whilst I was out and there was none. When i heard the bang and the power went, check injection came up on the dash and so did check esp which is odd.

Will try get my mates snap on reader on it later and take the air filter hose off and check the shaft.

  5. This does sound like the boost has been lost due to the valve coming out. Check between the battery and the front headlight, there is a valve there on the plastic boost pipe from the intercooler. When mine came out the above lights came on my dash!

  6. Will this cause the smoke as well terry

  7. Just checked it over under the bonnet. Can't see any thing out of place. Ran dash command and the vac is normal, everything looks normal, it's pissing out blue smoke when you rev it and it comes back down to idle. It doesn't really smoke on tick over although it does smell. I'm confident it's the turbo shafted. I'll have to remove the hose at some point and check the shaft.

  8. No will not cause smoke only lights and no boost.

New turbo time if shaft has too much play.

  9. The turbo seal has gone if your getting masses of blue smoke or even rings.

  10. Just taken the pipe off the turbo and I can't really feel any play in there but it's hard to get to. So I whipped the top boost pipe off and it's full of oil. So I'm gonna go say the turbo is knackered.

  11. You can always fit a 250/265 turbo. Same turbo but different internals, holds torque much better.

  14. how hard was it DIY?

  15. It was time consuming. Everything is a bitch to get to. We had to move the cat out the way to get to the turbo bolts, the cat to middle section bolts rounded off so the quickest way for us was to drop the subframe and drop the cat and flexi all in one.

It's not too bad a job and I certainly wouldn't take the engine out to do it.

  16. I'll just let mr black do it!

  17. I would lol. I'd say it took the best part of five hours to remove.

  18. Never seen that before. I never remove the engine to do them

  19. Lemon I'm after a bit of advice if you can spare 5 mins to check a thread I've just put on mate, cheers Steve

  20. Glad you found the problem joe, sorry to butt in mate

  21. No worries Steve.

Picked up a turbo off Mr Black today, so will start getting it back together tomorrow. See how long this one lasts lol.

  22. Great stuff, wish mark would answer his phone lol, need some jobs doing

  23. Same
