265 New air filter during service??

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by OiNK, May 1, 2014.

  1. So, after a dispute with Renault recently about my servicing plan the car went in for its first service. I do not trust this dealer one bit and they have a bad reputation in general.

So I dipped the oil, they have at least changed that, impressive.

Now how about the air filter, I just popped in out and this is how it looks. My question, does this really look like an air filter that was put into the car brand new 2 days ago? Would it really blacken up that fast? Or are they liars?

    Massive fucking liars.

Unless you've been driving around Xingtai in China.

  3. So sick of Renaults bullshit I really am. Now I wonder if they changed the oil filter and anything else they are expected to. Absolute disgrace.

  4. I have driven 50 miles since the "service".

I wouldn't be surprised if they've just emptied the oil and filled her up again with no oil filter change.

Is the cabin filter meant to be changed too? Have you checked that?

  6. Yeah it is meant to be, I have no idea where it is can you direct me I would like to check it also.

Will be phoning Renault UK yet again.

In a mk2 it's next to the clutch peddle. I've never even sat in a mk3 so I'm not sure.

  8. Can you name and shame the dealer ?

  9. They are based in N.Ireland mate.

Can anyone direct me to the location of the cabin filter in mk3?

  10. Have a look here

  11. Major ballache, just had the whole glovebox out, pipe removed, still cannot see where the filter is...on that basis I reckon the odds on them having ever changed it are slim to none. Screws did not look like they had ever had a screwdriver anywhere near them.

Already sent all my pics and info to the dealer, told them I will never be back across their door for a service or new car again.

Will be filling Renault UK in also, they actually paid for this service lol.

Have you checked next to the clutch peddle, on that guide it's a lhd, I doubt the whole car is reversed, it'll still be on the right hand side.

  13. That is some shitty service.. well the price they will pay after word starts going around is BIG!

  14. They have been fined by trading standards in the past for the same thing, seems they have not learnt their lesson. Disgusted.

My car will never go near them again. Only reason it goes near Renault at all is for warranty purposes.

  15. Check this out with independent garage like ATS or Halfords Autocentre.

Block exemption, you can get any car in warranty serviced at any proper garage, and keep the warranty valid so long as it's done to the manufacturers specification.

Have you found that filter yet?

  19. Really? So I don't actually have to take it to Renault? I assume it just has to be serviced with official Renault parts just?

Given up looking for the filter, losing light now.

The cabin filter on an RS250/265 is a complete ballache to get at which is why loads of places use the "Yes sir, of course we changed that" line because getting to it and swapping them out is the best part of an hours work and the customer cannot easily prove otherwise (unlike on the Megane II).

It's right up behind the drivers center dash on these (you access it from the drivers footwell via an access plate) and requires the clutch pedal mechanism to be dropped (removed on climate variants) to allow access to the plastic cover that hides/seals the airbox. The hydraulic master cylinder/pipework is also extremely fragile meaning if you lose your rag with this job it will cost you and drop brake fluid all over your carpet! I've gotten quite good with them lately as we've had a fair few 250's thru the door for servicing but we charge specifically for changing them and do not include them in a general service.

Regarding "Block exemption" it is true, you can have your vehicle serviced by a VAT registered garage that can prove it has used genuine parts to do the job and your warranty will remain intact. What I find funny though is that some main dealers don't use genuine parts (oil filter and air/cabin filter elements... but they charge for them).

  21. Lack of knowledge costs lot of money. I hope you will sort out this business with Renault dealer.

  22. Is this a 1yr interim service or 2yr service? Only the 2yr is new air filter on the service plan

if they have billed you for it thats mad...id be asking for a full refund for having you on!

  23. I was told that my 36k service would cost me about 350euro and if I
wanted the cabin filter done it would be another 70 because of the time involved
in changing them they always ask first
