Well some slight progress today , feels like 1 step forward 2 steps back at the moment ! :@ ive replace the front brake discs and pads finally, fitted the Brembo High carbon discs and Mintex M1144 pads ! Some of the old stuff Complete pain in the arse 2bh , the sliders were seized solid ! Managed to remove them in the end and clean the up , they will go again fine I think ! Brake pedal feels 100 % better now , it's at the top of the pedal , the NS inner pads has been seized for a while ! Luckily today I did them as when it was stripped I've found the lower hub bolt completely loose :/ seams to be a common thing after research and explains the annoying rattle ! However it looks like it's because of the bearing :@ pain in the arse , I've tightened the bolt guess I'll see over the next few weeks what will happen with it , if it does come loose it's having a new hub assembly ! Also managed to carry out a LED upgrade , replaced all the bulbs inside the car with LEDs , looks loads better xenon white, I'll take some photos in the dark lol , they were all small capless 501 bulbs , I did the two roof lining lamps (3 bulbs each lamp) the puddle lamps 1 each , the boot 1 and glove box 1! Also went about swapping the numberplate lamp bulbs and snapped the glass , so ordered new lamps and new LED bulbs for them too! Will get photos of them fitted tonight !
Few crap photos of the LEDs On better news, spoke to Mark Black , I was going to get him to supply me the bearings , but being the top bloke he is , managed to get me squeezed in on a Saturday so going to drop him the car off and get this hub bearing done and if it requires he's going to the drivers side too!
On the numberplates? If so , me too , lol ended up ordering some new numberplate lamps while I was at it, £6 from Ad @ Reanult Wolverhampton ! Lol
Well after a few months I've finally done it been down to Autobrite and they done me an awesome deal , a DAS6 pro and some hex pads and 3 bottles , restore enrich and final finish Few chats with a local detailer who is very kind and very helpful , always willing to help me and give advice had a go on the bonnet and down the passenger rear quarter , dead impressed with the bonnet , but it's not perfect , had a chat a with my friend and found out why I was struggling etc , the pads a little clogged with clear coat , so I need to brush it down and try again, but the results now are night and day ! About 90% here , used enrich to start with as restore is a little too much cut, but haven't used final here for the last bits ! Still the difference is loads better ! Need a few weeks to do the lot lol Also , I've ordered some switched to repair the lock button on the drivers side , annoying me now, and I've also ordered some gearbox oil from Opie , that'll be in soon Fuchs TITAN SINTOFLUID SAE 75W-80 so some good stuff going in
Ahh good to hear !! I spoke to George at opie and he recommended it cause of the LSD, hopefully sort out the cold issues with the box! Fingers crossed , I know it's never had the oil swapped lol
Oil has landed Also big shout out to Eggscake , after a few conversations he's decided to upgrade to a forge dump valve earlier than planned , and I'm buying his current baileys dump valve ! Looking forward to the next few months
No worries I'm working on mod site this week no phone iPad allowed and don't get home till 7 8 ish so I'm quiet ATM on the internet
Managed to get my sticker on the seats made for my by a friend ! She did me a few with extra couple , also have one for the engine cover just haven't got around to finishing that hahaha before after more to follow
Well the last few days have been, eventful should I say! I've had my new package delivered big thanks to Eggcakes, my dump valve has come Cant wait to get it on now Also in typical Renault style, the window last night started playing up, passenger side :@ Went to see mark black at Bolsover car care today to have the lower hub bearing sorted on the Passenger side as the bolt had come loose again, I asked him give it a check over and a few little bits and bobs req sorted nothing major , although he has mentioned the clutch isn't mint compared to most great ! I mentioned the the window and he did mention the regulators and motor packs fail and a laugh later he went upstairs and returned with a regulator , and motor , £30 later job done I put it in the boot , my friend tried the window on the way home and it opened so I laughed saying waste of money that regulator is....... Then when I got home , that's it stuck open :@ so ended up fitting the part of the motor and it's working sound again now ! Stupid Renaults lol
It's been a while been very very busy as always ! The megane is about to be hit hard, I've got so many things lying around to fit it's unreal, so I've booked next Monday off work and I'm hoping to get the megane on a ramp at work and do everything , I have a set of braided brake lines to fit, dump valve kit, a set of injectors , door handle switches and many many more ! Lol although I have been doing some small alterations , now I know it's not to everyone's taste but it's my car and I like them lol First off some pressed plates , I had horrible Arnold Clark plates on mine and I sure as hell ain't advertising them haha before and after lookes a lot cleaner in my opinion ! Also took off a few stickers and added a few again not to everyone's taste I know Getting there with it now, unfortunately a lot of my time has been dedicated to my missus' new Mini Cooper S so this hasn't been spoilt! Starting to get better with the paint , the reflection is getting better , I have to redo the boot and bumper as they are the worst , once they are done I'll be happier haha some of the sides now I've attacked them itll get there in the end
Well the car didn't know what hit it lol the dump valve and blanking plate are on , braided lines on , brakes stripped and cleaned , front disc hubs painted black and fitted my new injectors ! Have to say , the injectors have made a huge difference, runs 100x better and cured my misfire that I got every once in a while ! Also i seam to be averaging 25mpg instead of 19! Although this could be the long trip I did I'll keep my eyes on that Had a few issues with the lines , they fitted fine but just struggling get all the air out , bled it for the third time today and it's loads better , but I'm going to use a pressure bleeder Saturday try push the last bits if air out ! Dump valve is obviously noticeable but not over the top which is nice Starting to enjoy driving it more , but I miss the Clio oh well see what new goodies I can bolt on
Well after a few indecisive weeks I couldn't make my mind up to keep the megane , I loved my 182 , and seeing the car again bought it all back! However after a spirited drive and a sit in traffic made me realise why I love the megane it does fast very very well , and it also does normal driving very well! I had a serious offer on the car but I couldn't let it go, I need to man up and start loving this car ! One of the things that bothers me is my current lack of music , the standard CD player is okay, and with the optional 6 disc it made me not want to remove it , but I miss my iPod connection lol and the radio is pants on this standard unit . It's a shame not to fill all the space so I've been watching dual din units for a while , I ideally wanted a touch screen all singing all dancing unit , but with me and the missus booking a wedding venue and planning the future , I don't really have the funds for something amazing. I decided a quick scoot on eBay , and found a tidy Alpine unit , not massively new, and also not fancy head up, but reviews are great on it , and it has iPod connections with charging etc which I was happy about . a quick chat over to the owner and a offer on the table I bagged this for £70 Fitted in another car hopefully this will make me more at home with the car also so finally finished the engine bay cover ! Now please don't laugh at my awful painting skills its by no means professional , and I think it'll do for now see how it pans out ! Booked to go trax in it , and I'm on stand , so see how that goes plans to follow rear brakes door switches remap although I think it'll need a clutch before that , and I'm debating a single mass conversion ! See how it plans out !
Well i wont lie, times have been a little slow of late ! With me and the partner setting a date to get married and saving for that and a deposit for a house the megane has been sitting on its own ! I wont lie I had also lost a massive interest in the car , for some odd reason , and had decided to sell it, but after a thought or two i cant get anything that i would want for the money! i had a look at a trophy , that was a massive let down if i'm honest, 'mint' my @rse So i kept driving the megane and im glad i have because im starting to enjoy it alot more ! Its been MOT'd and a few things were highlighted which some i knew , some i didnt , it needs a new track rod end on the nearside, which i have the replacement part sitting on my toolbox, just need to find time to fit it. Also my Offside rear brake was binding badly, another highlighted fact that the rear discs and pads required replacement , which will be getting ordered this week ! its been freed off for now , but it will be sorted ! Tax dropped on the door step so again £146.50 lighter , but it also means ive had the megane for 6 months :O I Have fitted the new CD player which helps alot driving around , its nice to have my own music rather than the sh!tty radio with terrible reception ! Had to buy a fascia plate and get slightly creative with a hacksaw, but its all in flush I have recently been enjoying detailing a bit more and being lucky , autobrite are just down the road from me and i have some very good mates there, a few chats later i booked on there back to basics course which is aimed to do exactly what it says , it was a long day but god its worth it, they show you all sorts and there knowledge is crazy , they let us use the rotary machines and Dual action, which i've had some experiences , but they guide you on best techniques ! Well long story short they decided to use my R26 a demo car along with my friends type R , so my car got cleaned well without me having to bother lol Had kittens when they were showing / practising Rotary polishing on the bonnet Came out well the car did however because there was a lot of 50/50s to see the difference half the car was cleaner than the other half lol ! so a couple of days later i had to attack it again myself ! Also a good friend (very good friend) had let me borrow his Definitive wax to apply to my car, now i cant get across just how bloody good this stuff is, i used Carrera edition first then covered that with a layer of Show edition here are the results Ive just bought a Ram Air cone filter as well with a 70mm inlet so will fit straight into the pipe ! More to come soon comments always welcome Im at Trax sunday so no doubt will update after that
Well eventful few days with the megane ! A friend asked me to take him out in the car which after a bit of reluctance I agreed , we had a bit of a drive and Sod's law I noticed a catching noise from the rear when braking. Had a good feeling it was the rear brakes finally , as I knew they've been shot for ages , but due to the cost of them I was running them to the death lol Luckily this was Thursday night and I'd ordered the discs and pads on the Wednesday (Pure luck) so they were delivered Friday morning and I stayed behind after work to get them on for trax ! I knew the outer face of the disc was completely battered , but I didn't bother looking at the inner edge , prob best really after removing them I saw just how bad they were :O brace yourselves ..... new ones were fitted and the passenger side was a little tight going back but it went in the end alls happy there !! all fitted job done also so set about changing the air filter , when I bought it I had a modified airbox , I've seen a few people running a ram air cone filter on the standard pipe so I decided to get one was a 70mm filter and with a littler persuasion it was fitted ! I don't have any of it in at the moment will get a few , noise is great adds a lot over the modified air box , sounds great maybe me thinking but it felt a little better on the uptake , and gives some good suck and chatter over all very happy ! Made my way down to trax Sunday after spending all Saturday cleaning the car , hoovered , new Renault sport mats fitted (funny story I'll mention later) and a quick wax over with some Definitive wax Show Edition looked great Set out at 5.45am Sunday morning to meet everyone on Stand, was a very good drive down hardly any traffic until we hit silverstone then it drove me up the wall :@ got in about 9am on stand etc ! Few photos here none of mine I was to pre occupied to take any lol Was a great day , massively impressed with the R26 ! It didn't breakdown once , never skipped a beat, just over 220 odd miles the only problem was on the way back I've developed a slight catching noise from Driver side rear brake which I think is the metal clips the pad sits in rubbing on the disc which I will sort tomorrow ! Other than ham that faultless , and I used half a tank to get there and back which is amazing , my mate followed down in his type R and use ld nearly a full tank there and back and we were still exactly same speeds ! Very happy with the car have a few bits and bobs on order , clear indicator bulbs al round some new LED sidelights as the ones I have keep flickering , and also have a RS tuner coming off a friend see how things go ! More to follow
Mine were pretty fooked when I bought the car but like you say not cheap so took me like 4 months to change them . Terrible ain't it!
Haha kinda makes me feel better everyone though the same lol ! Mine have lasted 6 months 2bf so no complaining on my cards
Well last week I spotted somebody breaking a 225 , now since I bought the car I've been searching for a second hand exhaust , and I've seen 1 in 7 months and that had been sold before hand :@ well I literally jumped straight on and messaged him, really nice lad and got chatting , found out he's only in Derby and it was a full Milltek stainless with round tips which is exactly what I wanted we agreed a price which imo was very cheap and I went fetch it Sunday over the moon just need find some time to get it fitted hopefully soon enough ! Also so managed to get a steering wheel and set of front spacers 20mm and bolts to go on and I'll send the wheel to snappy who did my 182 wheel , watch this space
Pictures looked amazing after the detail. Do you have a picture of the air filter as I looked in my bay and it seems it would be quite a tight fit.
thank you im getting there slowly with it , I will make it a mint example when I'm done lol Thanks mate , spent ages doing it blacks awesome for pictures pain when your drive it everyday haha i dont have any photos yet suprisingly but I will get a few , it's quite a tight fit but it's snug, and the more I drive it , more I love that sound , when all the windows are shut and it's low revs and starts to build boost the noise is amazing !
Been looking at them on ebay and it's really tempting how much did you pay for yours? I see the small 20mm neck is £20 and the longer 40mm neck which you got is £30
Think it was £29.99! Seriously advise it , just for the sound , it's not loud or intrusive but just nice , sounds amazing I'll try get a video one day too !
