Fz 201 tyre

Discussion in 'Track Days & Track Driving' started by R26 track build, Apr 27, 2014.

  1. Anyone tried these on the megane? What they like?

I want a set of kumho v70 but can't get any for weeks because of the kumho factory move so was looking at these as alternative.

    Cheers

  2. don't know nothing about them tyres but from what I have heard the dunlop direzza dz03 are supposed to be the best dry tyre (almost as good as slicks) and not too expensive either but as soon as it get a bit wet they are dangerous.

  3. What do you class as not to expensive? I wanted to try the dzo3g but can never find them for less than £190 a tyre which is too much for me, the v70 and fz 201 are both around £165 a tyre.

  4. I've just ordered some of the nankang NS2Rs in soft compound £114 each or £108 for the medium compound , they get good reviews so worth a try at that sort of money

  5. when I was looking at tyres for the Clio 182 I was quoted about £115-120 fitted in 205/50/15 and I also had a quote for 235/40/18 but that was a couple of years ago and I think they were about £160 fitted, they were from http://www.mrtyremotorsport.co.uk/ worth a email
In the end I went with RSR's as I only have 1 set of wheels ATM so wanted something that I could use if it was wet.

  6. Worth a try Steve let me know what they're like.

Cheers I've tried them for a quote before but still the cheapest I've seen them in 225/40/18 is £190. I think I'll try a pair of those fz201 if no ones tried them before.

  7. how much are the fz201 then?

  8. £168

  9. That is not to bad

I've run FZ201s on my Focus and they are an awesome dry tyre but I found them a bit pointless because you still need a wet tyre on standby, so I just runs slicks instead. Currently running the Nankang NS-2R soft (we can supply these) at the Nurburgring and I'm very impressed with them on the R26. 31/32 psi hot is working well for me at the moment.
The Kuhmos are also an excellent dry tyre but not great in the wet. The Nankang has been excellent in the wet in Germany, no issues with standing water on wet autobahns and on the track they have been superb from damp to pretty well soaked. Just got the odd lockup when braking in the steep downhill sections but apart that, they are awesome if you take the wet line.
    Cheers,
    Jonny.

The prices are fixed by Nankang, so suppliers shouldn't be discounting any more than the £108 or £114 prices or they run the risk of losing their right to sell them. All tyres are barcoded, so they can be tracked back to the seller. I can offer free post and if they are not to be used for competition, then we can chat about a few more quid off if you're buying 2 or more.
