Remap issues or problems

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by edddurrant, Apr 23, 2014.

  1. Hi there, I am picking up my 225 next week and I am sooooo excited  , anyway i have one concern, it has been remapped to 265bhp.

I am worried that this will give the car issues or problems as everything else is standard. I don't know a great deal about remaps I just assume that the engine isn't prepared for the extra power. Can someone enlighten me as I am considering getting it remove at a cost of £100.

Also what fuel consumption am I likely to get on that remap?

    Thanks

  2. If it runs great ect then keep the remap on if it's mapped correctly then it won't give you any grief

  3. Your concerns are completely unjustified, assuming it been carried out by a reputable company.

At that power a standard engine should be more than reliable if properly maintained and warmed up before thrashing.

If driven sensibly you should also see a small improvement in MPG.

  4. So if I don't thrash it then theres no extra strain on the engine? Also i never understand how the fuel consumption can be improved but power increased?

    KTEC did it for info

  5. Even of u do trash it chances are it will still be fine just make sure it's warm when I do and not cold and ull be fine. Myn has been mapped for about a year now with 281 bhp and still going strong

  6. As above as long as I was done by a reputable company it should be fine mines 260 bhp stage one map by rst I always let my engine warm up to temp before I drive it hard I believe the meg engine can handle up to about 300bhp and 300ftlb torque safely anymore and you have to start thinking of forging the pistons etc

  7. It is interesting.
How much does it cost to increase power for RS250?
    Is it typical chip tunning?
What sort of power increase can I expect?
Any approved specialist around Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey or West London?

  8. At rs tuning I think a 250 can get around 300bhp for around 450 quid and they are extremely well recommended in renault remapping it is done on a rolling road and fine tuned to your car

  9. I afraid Leeds is bit to far away. Thank you.

  10. You have spent ten grand on a car.

You want the best for the car.

Travel to Leeds. Take the wife/girl/partner. Drop the car off. Say hello to Specky. Speak to Blocky. Say hello to Paul. Goto city. Come back. Drive home with a grin on face.

In short , dont scrimp on a shitty map for the sake of a few hours. There is a reason they are recommended.

  11. I have spent even more. Unfortunately Leeds is too far, unless I will plan couple of days off in Yorkshire. Thank you very much for informations guys. I need to think about it.

  12. 4 hour trip....up the M1 gravy and chips for lunch. premier inn. home in the morning..

  13. ^ mmm gravy

  14. I recently bought a re-mapped 225 Trophy and there are no issues, well certainly no engine/remap related issues.

The car is a 2005 and had the remap done when it was just out of warranty so has been running around the 260-270bhp for about 5 years. Car only has 41k on the clock but feels sharp and pulls nicely, clutch feels sharp and car drives nicely. Feels as sharp as my other 225 which has sub 4k on the clock and is standard.

MPG wise, I see 29mpg round town and mid 30s on a longer run.

As long as it's been done by a reputable company such as RS Tuning or K-Tec you shouldn't have an issue.

  15. I know that made my mouth water as well haha

Thanks for the info mate, very reassuring!

  16. +1 RS Tuning, 8hr round trip but well worth it for peace of mind given that the engine is by far the most expensive component, and of it goes pop it won't be cheap
