Track wheels

Discussion in 'Track Days & Track Driving' started by R26 track build, Apr 22, 2014.

  1. Hi I'm looking at getting some cheap track wheels was thinking of getting the clio 197 17" wheels but wanted to know how much difference will it make on track using a 17" wheel? I have some clio cup slicks I want to try.

also any pictures of megane sports with 17's on? I can't find any.

    Cheers

  2. Dan Lewis uses 17" wheels on his meg if I remember correctly

  3. I know a guy (josh) from Newcastle who will be going the same route

  4. Do the megane dci 175's have 17's?

  5. 18" I think mate

175's came with 17's iirc j lol think the lux pack added 18's to it

  8. I had regular 197 wheels with slicks

I was going to opt for track tyres as replacments onced they'd worn.

Tyre size would be 225/45/17 (RS175 dci size) wee bonus is its a more common size.

Didnt get round to it and sold them with a bit of life still in them (dam wedding, but once youve gone slick you never go back !)

  9. Yea I have a set of 197 wheels. You can notice the difference on semi slicks but they are thinner than the 18's. I bought a set of 225 wheels so I have a few different options now.

  10. Looks fine on 17"s.

The clio wheels are 7.5" as opposed to 8" what did you notice a loss of grip compared to 18"s?

  11. Not a lose of grip just didn't feel as nice as on the 18's on the road no issues but pushing it on the track just feels odd

  12. Like you've said the R26 wheels are only 1/2 inch wider than standard 197 wheels.

Maybe it's the taller tyre changing the feel more than the 1/2 inch difference ?

i can't really comment on track tyres as I was using Clio Cup slicks on mine.

Unless you get cup racer speedlines which are 17x8 or there's usually OZ Ultraleggera ( 17x8 ) wheels popping up for sale on 197.net with them being so popular on the Clio.
