i think if you do it on low pressure and cover electrics in bags then you should be ok. I have heard some pro detailers do it this kind of way. Failing that you can always try loads of degreaser and aggetate the dirt with a brush then wipe off......
Cover the electrics, take out the coils, on the holes place some ruber balls that fit. Wash it with some deagreaser. Let it dry
Don't worry about all that, just jet wash the hell out of it.............only messing!! Please do not do that haha. I cleaned up my Clio 172 engine bay with Autoglym Machine Cleaner. Sprayed it on, used a brush to work it in and then very gently rinsed with a trickle from an open hose. Did that twice and it came up really nice. With the Megane being more covered up, on my Trophy I used the same cleaner, worked it in with a brush and then used a wet microfibre to clean it off. Again did that a couple of times and then dried, came up looking alright. Once it's cleaned up to a decent extent it only needs a bit of plastic/trim dressing stuff to get it staying like that every now and again. The Megane (225/R26 at least) engine bay I found was good for not getting too mucky as most of it's covered up!

I cover mine in Auto Finesse Citrus and rub it about with a soft brush then use one of those hand pump garden sprayers to wash it down with water, using that you can accurately aim low pressure water away from any delicate parts ( ignition components, fusebox, air filter etc. ) Comes up sexy.
I always wrap any electrical or delicate parts in tin foil, rinse with the pressure washer on low, then clean up with Auto Finesse Citrus power. Follow that with a final rinse, dry and then dress with Auto Finesse Dressle or Aerospace 303, works very well for me, no problems so far.
Could you post some pictures with marked places I need to secure? I will go for watering can and brush option as it seems to be quite safe.
Again me. Is it safe to hoover leafs from engine bay? I have found them today below screenwash top up area and next to the belts. I don't want to damage anything. What about pictures with details what to cover before cleaning engine bay?
I think you will be fine with a Hoover mate I never cover anything up , spray with APC/degreaser Agitate with a detailing brush Rinse with a hosepipe (not jet wash) Blow dry with airline. Dress with your favorite dressing Personally I use either Carpro PERL or autoglym tyre dressing looks mega both water based so dry nice and don't attract loads of dust
method i use it to spray with something that will soften the grime and foam up when worked with a brush such as a strong APC mix like autosmart G101. work in with verious brushes where you can reach then switch to my steam cleaner with either brush or straight through attachment to scrub and remove the APC as steam has very low moisture theres less of a risk than a regular hose. then dry the bay using hot air from the air force blaster and spray dressing on. as above £)£ aerospace works and lasts like nothing else and will also help keep the bay clean as it doesnt seem to attract dust like others do. few good links https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCFwa0tmrjo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f8Cs5upI3Q

Those guys just used a Karchers. They didn't cover nothing. So far everything works fine. I will upload pictures tomorrow.
Too many expensive electrical components in a engine bay now to just be spraying it with a pressure washer, I just wipe my engine bay it is not spotless but if I wanted show car clean I would spend a day with a brush and cleaner and do it by hand.
