225 Variable Valve Timing

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by masters18, Apr 15, 2014.

  1. Can anyone explain how the variable valve timing works?
I had my timing belt and accessories belt changed by Renault dealer and since I got it back, I seem to have a 'dead spot' in the throttle response. If I want to accelerate at low-ish revs, there is a couple of seconds where the engine seems to delay responding and then catches up with itself - like turbo lag. There is full power once it gets the revs up, but it seems like it needs the timing advanced at this point to stop the lag - hence why a problem with vvt is a thought that occurred. Also sometimes at junctions I find the engine revs get stuck at 1500rpm for a few seconds before coming down to tickover.
I've taken it back to Renault and they say there are no fault codes. Anyone got any ideas please?

  2. It doesn't have VVT, I'm afraid.

Maybe they haven't timed it properly??

  3. It could be a throttle potentiometer.

  4. Thanks for your reply which is interesting. The head mechanic specifically told me it did!
He also said the belt could not be misaligned as when it is changed they stick something in a couple of holes to stop any movement whilst it's being changed. I'll have another word with him and see if he changes his story. Cheers.

  5. Thanks mate. I'll get this checked by the Renault garage.

  6. no vvti on the f4r engine. sounds like incorrectly timed which happened cos they didnt tension it correctly
