So, my first lot of snow foam has run out, I had bought Meguiars HyperWash and it was top stuff, great thick foam and it seemed to remove a lot of excess grime before washing. It is about £34 for 3.7L which seems a bit expensive although you do need very little to produce a lot of suds. Just wondering if anyone recommends any other brand at a better price? Thanks
Snow foam is a gimmick IMO, a citrus pre wash is a much better option in my experience. If you do want to stick with snow foam Magifoam is one of the better in regards to cleaning and price
It's definitely not a gimmick. It only works properly on a well protected sealed paint surface, which is probably why there are those who think it's a gimmick... I'm interested in the results of this thread; i'm in the market for some at the mo; my AG stuff is bit crap tbh!
I've been looking into snow foaming recently and I hear a lot of people recommending Bilt Hamber. It's half the price of AF avalanche and hear its thick and great at removing grime. It's on the clean your car site, the fact it's sold out at the min may suggest its decent. I hope so anyway
im still on my first, its AB Magifoam its very good, i too have heard good things about the Bilt Hamber foam
Chemical guys no touch is great. Thicker than magnifoam so has more time to attack the dirt and has better cleaning power. Bilt hamber is also very good. Dave
I'm getting rid of my AB lance with nilfisk adapter and 2L of magifoam as I prefer a pre-wash instead now .. less mess!
It very much is. I have tried LOADS of different types and always on properly sealed paintwork SO need need for the sly dig. Its fun to use and thats about it, although in the summer is is good for cleaning the dust off. I will always go for a citrus pre wash for cleaning grime and actual dirt.
I wasn't a dig, It was an assumption, which is apparently incorrect. I disagree with you on the basis that my personal experience with a good snowfoam is that it does work to lift the majority of road grime etc off the car, and loosens the remainder so it can be more easily jet-washed off prior to even going near the surfaces with a microfibre... I will concede that I haven't tried a Citrus pre-wash however; any good?
Fair enough Yeah I find them to have a much better effect at shifting road grime and dirt, less mess as well if using a pump sprayer
Fair doos; is the pump sprayer like a weed killer sprayer? Being really lazy, do you have a link to one?
I personally use Valet Pro neutral Snow foam via a Lance, plus I've also tried the Advanced version. I also use Valet Pro Citrus pre wash via a pressure pump spray .... and to be fair I’m not exactly convinced by either of them. Snow foam is good fun and people always wonder what you're doing but for me it never seems to clean the car ... I accept that it just softens the dirt and makes it easier to blast with a jet wash prior to a hand wash, it's pretty much the same with Citrus pre wash really. I now spray Citrus pre wash on the lower/more dirty parts of the car, leave it for 5-10mins and then snow foam the entire car. When I use my Nelfisk C110 to pressure wash it after 10mins, I can see a change in colour as it blasts off some dirty but you can still run your finger over the same area to reveal dirt and clean paint under it. (maybe my expectations are too high) I still know that I have to get the buckets out to wash it by hand, my only hope is that by doing it this way I’m minimizing my chances of scratching the paint work.
This is the snow-foam I use and I find it pretty good. You can get really thick foam which sits for a good while and it doesn't strip any of the wax.
Autosmart ultramousse is one of the best out there for cleaning power and economical use Citrus pre wash is also very good , I've got a citrus snow foam from i4detailing which is very good also
yeah its just designed to loosen the dirt for when you blast it off with a jetwash. its a pre wash so it wont clean the car to the results of after a normal maintance wash for example, sometimes ive had to snow foam mine twice before i use the two bucket method to wash it just to get rid of traffic film then the loose dirt. yeah it does help to minimise scratches, if you don't already, try using the two bucket method with grit guards. one is a rinse bucket, one's a wash. the rinse one at the end will be very dirty and the wash will still be clean, and all the grit etc will be at the bottom
Yeah i'm not exactly convinced that snow foam or a citrus wash are any better than just water when if comes to a pre wash before the 2 Bucket Method
I do find the snow foam does lift a lot of the dirt, so when you do pressure wash it removes quite a bit of the crap. It makes the 2-bucket and mitt wash afterwards a whole lot easier and with much less grit. It does struggle a bit with the flies and grease but that's what a citrus pre-wash would sort out I guess
So I've just bought a snow foam lance and some BH auto foam. First impressions aren't great tbf. first time I used it I made a right mess and it went everywhere including neighbours house and car. Took some fiddling with adjusting the settings on the lance but I don't know how much I should dilute the detergent. Any one have any ideas of mix??
It's really messy! I did the samr when I used to use my sf and lance. Now just use a pump sprayer with a citrus pre wash
Somewhere in the region of a 10-1 dilute depending on the stuff used (think mine usually ends up being more like 6 or 7-1), you then need to adjust the mix on the lance so that it's not just running off but also that it's not just sitting on the car. It needs to be moving at least slowly down the panels. Having a waxed car helps it work.
I don't understand what people are doing to make such a "mess" I haven't had any issues, spray it at the car lol...it clings great and removes a lot of dirt after a good soak and rinse...
What I like snowfoam for is to give the car a good coating, then do the wheels, door shuts and grille etc whilst it's dwelling on the rest of the car. Then when it's pressure washed off the car is ready to be hand washed.
i can take a bit of trial and error to find the right mix but 1:10 is a good place to start. angle the lance at the bottom of the car when fine tuning the concentration and the spray area. few pictures i took when detailing a fiesta ST last weekend showing what snow foam removed. this was with CG no touch at 1:10 left to dwell for around 10 mins before rinsing on high pressure (i.e the lance set to fully concentration and no fan) Dave
I got one of those Karcher foam attachments....is it worth forking out for a proper foam lance.....they seem quite pricey
Yeah ok matey I'll take that. PayPal gift ok? Let me have your details trying to pm but on tapatalk I can't work it out
What with a recent spell of good weather combined with a complete lack of time i found a new quick wash. Snowfoam, dwell & the pressure wash. Followed by snowfoam then cleaned with a wash mitt and rinse. Seem ok and safe.
