You do have to cringe!

  1. Was outside giving the Trophy some TLC yesterday, usual kind of set up. Two buckets, Karcher pressure washer and Vacuum, lots of microfibres and drying towels. You know the score.

Anyway my neighbour, who's a really nice chap came out to wash his Beemer for what must be the second time I've seen him wash it since he bought it new......it's a 2008 BMW 325 convertible.

I did have to cringe although he gave it a pre-wash with a very low powered pressure washer and some foamy stuff. Followed by a scrub, I mean wash down with what looked like a 5" polishing pad. Leaving it more brown and smeary than black. Eventually he got it dried and it looked ok but it was a cringy process!! haha

This is how his car looked after I clayed and polished it for him. Someone painting my house splattered masonry paint on his car so I offered to get it off so it once looked like this (not perfect but pretty decent shine)....

Oh and he proceeded later in the day to go out and attack it with AG Paint Restorer which he coated the car in and spent an age buffing. Must have caked on like a b*stard!!

Either way, gotta smile really.

  2. Shame that he'll end up ruining all your hard work you put in.

  3. Still better than the polish type of wash...

  4. Well I kinda owed him getting the paint off the car at least so thought I'd at least give it a proper once over for him.

Just makes me chuckle when you see people make a hash of it. If I hadn't been mid way through using it, I'd have at least let him use my pressure washer haha.

You say that mate but seriously the gear he was using was not in a fit state. He pulled a rag out of the boot that had been sat in the tyre well and had god knows what on it. Then buffed the hell out of it.

That was after wiping off all the brown nasty streaks from washing it with a tiny spongy things. haha

^^^ To be fair this is normal?

People who own A to B cars either don't wash them at all or wash them badly. That's why they get shut of them after a few years.

  6. Oh yeah tell me about it mate, just funny to watch and somehow it came out looking ok.

Swirled to hell but it already was.

  7. lol Guy Down the road from me uses an Hose pipe and Truck Brush on his Avensis and leaves it to dry Naturally !!!

  8. Drying naturally is a funny one as unless he's got a silver car that would look utterly pony!!

At least my neighbour dried it, even if it was with a cloth which looked like really old underpants.

  9. Reading this, it's just made me realise that I've never seen any of my neighbours out washing their cars, ever. I'm the only one!

  10. Just to revive a dead thread i watched my neighbour was his astra yesterday with a bucket and 99p sponge whilst he was scrubbing with the sponge his phone rang so he put the sponge on the floor answered his phone then picked the sponge back up and carried on scrubbing

  11. I think he's the only neighbour I've ever seen wash his car and that is very very rare!!

Thing is I understand people not being into detailing, I don't even blame people for using a sponger and chamois as they're old skool and functional, just not that kind of paint.

The stuff that staggers me is the lack of common sense, washing wheels first with the same sponge as the bodywork or using dropping the sponge on gravel then picking it up and carrying on scrubbing etc. It's not a detailing mind it's just common sense!!

  12. In the 2 years I've lived here I've only seen one neighbour wash their car once.

I am actually the only person who washes their own car around here it seems.
