RS250 Cup

  1. Hi, bought at 3.5 year old RS250 with 33k on the clock. It is the Cup version without an RS monitor nor recaros unfortunately but for the money I paid for it I'm happy.

I had it into Renault straight away due to the clinking noise which some of these cars have, the pulley tensioner problem and in fairness to Renault as the car was half a year outside of warranty they agreed to leave with 20% of the bill, I sent that to the garage I bought it from and they paid that . All in all new pulleys cambelt auxiliary belts and no need to change them until 105k, will save me a £960 bill at the usual 72.5k belt change.

With all that out of the way I then did the following.

    Rear Windows tinted limo black
    EBay black badge covers applied
    Megane lettering removed
Original wheelnuts replaced again £20 eBay fix.
    BMC air filter
    New spark plugs
Mid box delete to give the exhaust some grunt and pop.
Moved private plate over and got new plates with rev border and Renaultsport lettering

I thinks it's turned out quite well so far.

Stereo and speakers are a bit lame but about 1k to get a decent system not sure I can afford that anytime soon.
Wheel arch covers both cracked so will need some attention.
A couple of stone chips on the bonnet 5p size. May get a respray or a carbon wrap for £150 to cover them.
    Forge valve probably next
Blue fin remap is very tempting.

    Pics to follow.

If anyone has an comments or people/places they can recommend for some of the above wishlist please let me know. Based near Reading but will travel for the right workmanship.

    Thanks all

  2. Thanks for the replies on other posts with regards to parts etc, everyone has been really helpful for a RS250 newbie.

  3. Hello mate, lovely car!!! What do you mean by the clinking that you had repaired what was this from? Cheers

  4. Cheers, I attach a link to a forum that explains the problem there is also a YouTube video about 4 posts down which was exactly what I had unfortunately, a pulley tensioner!

  5. Blue Fin mapping installed today and all is performing very well and I have a better throttle response and a little less effort getting up through the gears. Never really thrash through 1&2nd gears but 3rd onwards definitely more torque and boost on tap. Very impressed so far will give it a few days to see how fuel economy performs. From the blast I did today I think it won't be any worse but the temptation to use the extra power will pull the economy down, I must resist....

  6. Cleaned throughly not sure the pics do it justice though

  7. Looking good, but needs some tyre shine to finish it off. Fastest colour tho

  8. as above, esp on black, megs endurance gel from halfords get it done!

  9. Will be popping in tmrw. Did say the same to a mate that popped over, wheels look bloody grey

  10. Don't use too much of the Megs Tyre gel, a little goes a long way and too much ends up being splattered all over the paintwork.

  11. Thanks for that, would of done my usual throw it on and end up making a huge mess

  12. Bought some today so will have a go tmrw.

Fyi halfords are doing 3 for 2 on the Meg stuff.

  13. RS Tuning map applied and side lights and interior lights changed to Xenon white LED's all barring the glove compartment as that is a different bulb type so the specialist kit I got isn't so specialist after all, seemingly mine is the only RS250 with this type of bulb, yeah right

  14. Megs gel applied, great stuff

  15. Haha good man miles better!
