Well alongside my Meganes I have a couple of other RenaultSports. First up is my Twingo 133 Gordini, had this from new and have no intention of selling up. Such a fun little car, superb handling and plenty of character.... Now sadly my Clio 172 is up for sale but still have it just now. I bought the car original for £800 off a friend who'd managed to dent the door and scratch the front bumper. Mechanically the car was sound as it had 60k on the clock and a full service history. I had the bodywork repaired so the exterior is pretty spotless. The dephaser pulley started to make a right old racket so I took it to K-tec and had it replaced, along with the cambelt (number 2) and water pump. Whilst it was there I had it re-mapped, new cams and induction kit. It also has a 2 1/2" Power Flow cat back system. Runs around 180bhp and sounds fantastic. The car is lowered 40mm on a set of Apex springs and I still love these rather Marmite Cades Eros Jaffa 15" wheels.....
Yeah the 133s are superb and seriously underrated cars. This one doesn't actually have the Cup chassis and yet I'm very pleased it doesn't. When I ordered my Gordini, my girlfriend at the time ordered a 133 in white with the Cup chassis (black wheels etc) so I was able to drive them back to back. The Cup chassis is a lot harsher but doesn't offer, on a day to day driving much of an advantage. If anything I find the non-Cup chassis more pliant and able to cope with the roads plus on the Gordini you get the 17" wheels as standard anyway.
The steering wheel has two stripes round the top to match the white stripes over the car. Thing is being a right hand drive car the stripes on the wheel are on a different side to the ones on the bodywork! Personally my OCD extends as far as keeping my cars immaculate, I can live with the stripes being on opposite sides haha.
A lot of folk seem to criticise the cup chassis on the 133 for being a little harsh, I've got it on my LY 133 and love it, skipping round corners and the like
Don't get me wrong I don't think it ruins the car but the suspension itself compared to the normal RS set up isn't much of an enhancement. The Cup chassis though is all about getting those 17" rims instead! Oh and for those of you trying to see the stripes on the Twingo steering wheel haha
I've just sold a silverstone 133 twingo, brilliant car, the last 1000 revs to the limiter sound fantastic, i did find it a bit harsh on the roads around my area with the cup chassis, but it was a great little car.
I think if you want a track car or just prefer the 17" rims the the Cup chassis is the one to have. For day to day driving, the non-Cup chassis is more forgiving with very little compromise in terms of handling.
