I'm looking at getting a company car soon, most likely a 75 mpg diesel and so it will enable me to transform my R26 from a daily driver to a weekend and track day toy. Before I do this I'm just wanting to know what others experience of using their megs as a track day car are like, so I can decide if it's a good idea or not. I've read the thread about insurance so I'm wanting to know about all other factors. Cheers Si
Si have you seen the sheep yet, it's under a thread started by John Clifton , the R26 is a hell of a good car on tracknin standard form to start with so yes it's a good idea, take a look at the sheep
That looks hardcore, maybe mine will look similar one day, good to know the car is suitable in standard form. In terms of tyres how long do they tend to last in track use. i can't view that thread on the other site btw
If your going coilovers with camber and you can peddle a car then full slicks on the front and say a V700 kumho on the rear will last days and days , dependent which track and which semi slick on the front 3-7 days like I say rears will do 12 days easy mate
You'll have to get it over to Cadwell some time Jacob , it would be awesome round there mate , you would love it mate .
The Clio is going now Steve. If your interested? It's a shame but I'm back in a Megane again, the Clio is one hell of a toy now though. Even you'd be surprised.
So a standard R26 is good enough to cope with the track but seems that track specific tyres are the most useful addition/ mod. In terms of of using a track do you need any special type of license? Or any safety gear- helmet, overalls ??
most important mod is decent fluid then pads then tyres and IMO before all the above is talent lol I'd have some instruction too
Haha suppose it's not all about the car, altho I consider myself a decent driver ( don't we all) I reckon instruction would be a good idea!
