under bonnet sound deadening

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by dtaylor, Feb 15, 2014.

  1. Hi all.

Is there any reason I need the sound deadening under the bonnet? Ive taken the engine cover off to help it loose heat a bit quicker under the bonnet and its making a mess of the sound deadening.

Wasnt sure if it was there to provent anything making contact with the bonnet from in the engine bay?

    thanks

  2. Get rid of it dave, no need for it mate and another good way of getting rid of a lot of heat is to remove the rubber under bonet seal at the back of the engine, hardly seals to the bonet anyway mate

  3. The paint on the bonnet may fade and craze over a period of time from the extra heat, that's the only downside though......

  4. Thanks for the info guys.

  5. No it won't all the ones that do track days have it removed, no effect to the bonnet at all on any of them

Over time there could be effects on top of the lacquer, but it's rare. Mine blistered back in the day but I stupidly did 3 hours round Silverstone in a heatwave. And with no engine cover. Saying that i very much doubt it was heat from the car..

  7. Get rid! :tongueout:

  8. It will be fine Dave. The 197 had sound deadening then the 200 didn't..

and it's a sound deadener not a heat sheild

  9. First thing I ever do to any of my cars is remove the under bonnet carpet and polish up the metal behind, looks better and I've never had any paint damage.

being a Renault it'll only fall off eventually anyway and scuff your engine cover to shit. On that note mines knackered and I want to get it sprayed silver again. Anyone know where I can get the 2.0T stickers from?

  10. I got an f1 team sticker on mine of ebay cost pence and looks better IMO although I didn't remove my sound deadening and it's scuffed a bit so needs repainting

  11. Does look good that. Renault wanted £120 for a new one!

  12. thanks for clearing that up guys. will get it ripped off. also gives me something else to polish

  13. Anything like mine you may find some white glue residue under there, I'm unsure if it's renault fitment or the owner before tried to stop it sagging. Either way brake cleaner or paint stripper won't touch the bastard.

  14. Try some tardis mate ... yet to find something it can't remove

  15. Ive never had a problem removing mine! Even doing trackdays its not a problem
