265 Outer CV Joints

  1. Hi folks,

I've gone through 2 sets of outer CV joints for both sides, in less than a year. (OEM SNR)

Is there any stronger CV Joint option for Megane 3 RS ? or anyone experienced this?
Or maybe something I'm doing wrong perhaps somewhere.

Grease is put in place evenly spread, and boots are new and secured in place, no leaks.
The car is mostly a daily but driven quite hard on track 3 times a year.

Current difference to original suspension is stiffer lower balljoints, and wider OZ wheels. (18X9 ET55)
    Tires Nankang NS2R

    Power is at 260 whp/ 280 lbft

  2. That is not good, there must be something seriously wrong, i have never had to replace a CV joint, not even when the boot split and all the grease came out.
My car is a track car (+ driving to and from) and is running 440hp.

  3. yeah, quite odd !
I'm thinking of removing the (new) grease, and putting some Redline CV-2 grease in them to see if they hold better.

Most Meganes are running higher torque than stock, like yours, and this isn't an issue. Don't know why it is on mine.

  4. so I took out both inner and outter CV boots, cleaned both left and right, and added some Royal Purple High perf grease.
There's no more clicking when turning at least at road speed. Still pending to test this after a trackday.

  5. I went on track and after the session the clicking is back, super loud while turning regardless of speed.
Even after putting high performance grease to them. Taking them apart shows nothing broken or visible play.
Since this is on stock suspension it makes it even more strange.

I'm affraid there might be something pushing the suspension into odd angles prematurely wearing these.
At some point I thought the LSD might be where the noise comes from, but replacing said outter cv joints fixes it, until I take it to the track again..

Is there a chance someone is using, or knows of a stronger cv joint for this car?
I guess otherwise replacing other suspension components? shooting in the dark

  6. There must be something very wrong with the set up, or the CV joints you are getting are just not up to standard? Might be worth trying to source some factory second hand complete axles? If you are just replacing the outers, they may not be a true replacement.. just something that fits.
For reference, I've been racing for 3 years with 295whp, in slicks, and never had any issues with CV's. Still on the ones the car came with from the factory.

  7. thank you Chris, I'll try with some new Renault axles next time and see, hopefully it's as you say and this gets fixed.
