Hello and greetings from the Southern Hemisphere. We have just lost our 3G network here and guess what, no R-Link or R-Link2 is able to update software, maps or anything. Renault Australia’s answer, get in touch with R-Link UK. When you do, they kindly tell you about the 3 G issue and that the head unit is approaching its end of life!! What happened in the UK? Did owners get a letter or email stating what would happen when the 3G network access ceased and the effect on R-Link? Conversely has anyone got advice on how to go about an update of software and continue using paid for map subscriptions? We haven’t had a map update released by Renault or TomTom for R-Link down here since 2018. The vehicle is a 2018 Renault Sports GT Megane wagon. Thanks for listening..
Hi Sven, Your case is a little bit different as the maps are different for EU, North America, Australia so can't comment on the latest update software/version. If you have FB, there's a really good forum dedicated to the R-link https://facebook.com/groups/764193797465935/ Might be worth to have a look and/or ask the question. If you need help to translate anything from french just ask me.
Seb RS, thank you for the FB tip and translation offer. I knew that there would be some sound advice from this forum. Many thanks and all the best.
Thank you TheHood, that sounds interesting. At the risk of sounding like a Boomer, any advice on how to would be much appreciated. I have done the Apple CarPlay thing and find the map display etc too small on the R-Link screen. Is it the same process as Apple except using an Android phone? All the best.
Android auto works perfectly on the full screen. The resolution isn't the best but it's legible enough. It needs to be enabled, which admittedly isn't that easy which is why I paid "Stage x" to do it. Sven, you're going to have to find yourself a local tame geek I've no idea if the video below will work on your car but it definitely shows what's involved. If it does, my only tip would be to use a very short USB cable to connect to the android phone otherwise it can be very flakey
