Cooksport springs for 250?

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by CCowan91, Oct 3, 2016.

  1. Was thinking of ordering some as it's a relatively cheap mod and I hate how high the car sits... Understand they've not been on sale very long but has anyone had them fitted? I'd imagine they are very good as they have a good rep with previous Megane's and Clio's but not seen much said about them.

  2. Visually I think they look spot on. Im personally not a fan of cars that look lowered if that makes sense.

Only driven ~50 miles but so far they seem to ride similarly to the regular cup springs (maybe a touch stiffer) which is a big plus in my book. It doesnt seem to have compromised the handling or comfort thankfully but Ill know more after the next track day. I've had no problems with any speed bumps or ramps too which was also a concern of mine.

Great service and communication from Cooksport themselves too which is always nice!

  3. That does look spot on, exactly what I'm looking for. It was these or the H&R ones but I read about numerous problems with knocking with the H&R in the past so put me off.

Thanks for the input! I'm glad it doesn't compromise the handling or comfort much either! The roads are bad enough in this city!

  4. Yup I've had mine fitted since late July, no problems so far. Sits perfectly, not too low, not really any difference to the cup set up, certainly not crashy or anything

Oh wow, a 59 plate Mk3! I didn't even know they could of been bought that early

The cooksports sit spot on IMO, Not overly low and reduces the arch gap just enough

  7. I just had these springs fitted after purchasing them earlier in the week and the rear seems to be sitting much lower than others are seeing. Please see picture below.
Any thoughts on why this might be? Megane with Cooksport Springs.jpg

  8. Got a better side on pic??

  9. Unfortunately picked the car up when it was getting dark as been away all day on business, so have had to take ones in the garage now and lighting isn't great. Here's the RL corner.

On the rear I can barely get my fingers between the tyre and the arch, and the gap looks considerably smaller than on the cars pictured in this thread and that showed in pictures on the Cooksport Facebook page.

The front looks ok in terms of ride height but there was an interesting comment from the garage that the front springs were considerably smaller diameter than those which came off and the spring cups on the shocks had to be bent slightly to hold them better.

Have jacked up the rear and the springs are installed correctly and seated. With the RR corner jacked up clear of the ground, the spring is quite loose, so not sure if this is usual?

The part number on the box is CSCRS33.1. Not sure if anyone has theirs to hand to compare?

  10. The back does look very low

  11. Perhaps youve been sent the Clio springs by mistake? No issue fitting mine and nothing needed to be adjusted.

Just took a look at the box my cooksport springs came in. There is a white sticker with the code CSMRS33

  12. CSCRS = Cook Sport Clio RS as opposed to MRS for the Meg? Seems likely, especially with the smaller diameter.

  13. Thanks guys.

I exchanged some emails with Cooksport and they confirmed overnight that they're the wrong springs. All paperwork shows Megane springs ordered and shipped so they've mixed up some parts and not shipped the correct parts against the order.

Am waiting to see what their response is regarding covering costs of refitting all new springs because they shipped the wrong parts, so I see no reason why I should be very out of pocket for their mistake.

They've said they're sending new springs on Monday so have requested a Tuesday morning delivery to allow me to get them fitted Tuesday as not wanting to drive the car in its current configuration. Hoping this all can be resolved amicably.

  14. Damn, i hope you get it all sorted out. Im waiting your comments if you get the right parts installed, as I'm still unsure what to do, as i have brand new set of Cup shocks with springs waiting, I'm not sure am i ordering Cooksport ones to install them or not.

  15. Pleased to report that Cooksport quickly supplied me with the correct springs for my car and covered the cost of fitting the new springs directly with the garage, so all has been resolved with no hard feelings.

So far I'm very happy with the Cooksport springs with the ride quality not having deteriorated at all from the standard springs. The look of the car is greatly improved with a much better ride height and still as comfortable as it was before, so would definitely recommend them. Will get some photos up of it once it's been cleaned at the weekend.

  16. Great to hear that it solved without problems. Good feedback so far and im waiting for the pictures, still interested of using them under my car also, to get rid of that extra wheel gap.

  17. Car was clean this morning so here is a photo of how it sits.

  18. Sits great :sunglasses: how long does it take for a mechanic to change the springs on this RS model?

  19. For the first fitment of springs it was the first time my local mechanic had worked on this car so it took all day to do all of them.

I think with someone who has experience it should be around half a day to do them all. The rears are very easy, but there's a lot to remove to get the front springs out I believe so it is more time consuming.

  20. As much as i like this stance I do worry about compliancy and ride height practicality. I do a lot of hoons and some drivng weekends and rural roads can be quite bumpy at times.

  21. My commute to work is 20 mins on Norfolk back roads with nothing more major than a B road and most of the time on quite minor roads which are far from smooth, and includes the need to pull into semi off-road passing places.

In terms of compliancy, the Cooksport springs are on par with the standard springs, and I've had no concerns at all over ride height.

  22. I really like the stance of your car now with the Cooksport springs. Im going to order and install them also, but i think its smart to do it after the winter as we can get some serious snow over here.

  23. Hey all,

Had my eye on this thread for a while now. How do we think the Cooksport springs would play on a 250 with non-cup dampers? I do intend on replacing the dampers with cup ones (or bilsteins etc) when they are shot, but not right now as they are only on 26k.

    Thanks,

    Nathan.

  24. Hi, did you tested on track? The Cooksport springs make you do better, quicker lap time? I dont know what buy... coocksport, eibach, AST, grams? Wich is the best for track and oem coil?

  25. I've got cooksport springs on new cup dampers. Car handles superbly.

  26. Ok, eibah dont? Eibach cost me 250 dolars. Coocksport 600 dolars. coocksport are much better for tracks?

  27. Haven't tried any other brands of spring. Can recommend cooksport

  28. To be honest all lowering springs are near enough the same. If you wanted to go for lowering springs, I would personally just buy the cheapest springs from a reputable brand (Eibach, H&R, Cooksport, Grams, etc..).

Coilovers with adjustable top mounts are the best for track use. All depends on your budget.

  29. Thanks!
Do yo thinks that Eibach are stiffer than stock cup springs? Stock is no progressive, but eibach is.
Could it be better Eibach than stock?

  30. I have been working with the car.
Put compbrake and superpro. I couldn't got time to install the rear ones.
The car was 1.75 1.80 front camber and was perfect. I need to adapt my drive to this new setup. Only 1 second quicker.

  31. 1 second could be conditions on the day, rather than suspension changes... tyre temp, track temperature etc. Or do you think this is suspension related?

  32. Two track day never the same! ,)
I use 4 slicks tires with 3 track days more than the slow one... The condition were similars
Only change SuperPro Suspension Bushes front and compbrake adjustable front suspension top mount and change the camber from 1 to 1.8.
Now I'm waiting for the PFF60-703-24BLK BLACK Powerflex Front Anti Roll Bar Bush - 24mm and install the superpro rear Suspension Bushes.
I did not notice any problems with the flat floor

  33. What is that top mount? I’m
Interested…. It does not look like my BC.

  34. Sorry - just seen it’s a Compbrake.

  35. Yes! The build quality is excellent!!
I have ones silver plate but I don't like them.

Someone put front strut bar? Fell any difference?

  36. I have a Wiechers strut brace - the blade shape aluminium one. I like it. Fitted to stock suspension before I fitted the coilovers, it made a small positive difference - turning into tight corners felt less under steer and more grip perhaps. I still have it with the coilovers fitted

  37. Can you send me a picture and the part number to order one? Thanks!

  38. Hope these work ok - took them when I installed it and you can just see the ref number on the big photo.

  39. Perfect!!

  40. One more thing to note: the strut brace is a heat sink, so becomes hot when the engine is hot - too hot to touch with a hand, after an engine workout on a hot day :grinning:. No damage to paint on the bonnet though or other parts.
