In a nutshell I get out of the car after a drive and my shoes are dirtier than when I got in! How do you detailers clean yours? Are they ok to jet wash? Got some lovely white trainers that I want to keep white
I have some rubber mats in my work van. Those weren't cleaned for 7 months and 22000 miles, so when I finally did it I took them out and scrubbed them with a brush and soapy water. I just remove and hoover the megs mats. I think I need new ones though.
We talking carpet mats here? Best way is megs all purpose spray on liberally, agitate , jet wash off then air dry. Use Hoover to fluff up the pile again afterwards.
Don't jet wash to close as you will damage the pile. If you have a vax or similar then clean them with the mini tool and then use a fabric protector for easier cleaning in the future.
Thanks for tips guys I'll give it a go this weekend as a hover and a spray of fabreeze just ain't cutting it
As glen says dont use a jet wash. Carpet matts should be vacuumed first then cleaned with a proper apolstry cleaner such as autobrite FAB. Avoid all purpose cleaners as they create a lot of suds and leave the matts slippy. This eventually get onto your shoes then pedals. Gtechniq i1 is a good fabric protector. Dave
If I jet washed a carpet mat it wouldn't go back in the car until completely dry .... in winter that may be 12-24hr indoors in a warm place. ( Don't leave damp mats in a car) On carpet, I'd use a stiff brush and give a good going over,up n down then criss cross. Then i'd give them a good going over with a hover, again up n down and criss cross. Finally to remove stains i'd brush in a foam carpet cleaner, leave for a couple of mins then wipe away with a microfiber cloth. Finally if you have a spray air freshener give the mats a misting/spray. Carpet mats for the summer, rubber for the winter.
Got to say fella I've been using Meg's all purpose cleaner for years and never had that problem. Unless your driving with soaking wet matts that have not been rinsed sufficiently of all cleaning agents then you could potentially say the same about any upholstery cleaner.
Gents you've opened my eyes to a whole new scary detail world! thanks again, and Ed thanks for the trainer tip
