250 Brake pad & disc replacement

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by Richdobie, Aug 15, 2021.

  1. I replaced my std brembo pads/grooved discs a few weeks ago with plain brembo discs and PBS Pro-race pads. I decided to video how I did it for my YouTube channel to help others than may never have had a go at it before. It’s not difficult but there are a few tips that I use that should help you along the way.

I’ve posted a link to the video here. Any questions, please feel free to ask or comment on the video itself. Hope it helps a few owners out there.

  2. Nice video!

I went to do this yesterday on my car but realised didn't have a huge 12mm key on me for calipers back to it today

  4. Firstly great video, we desperately need more meg videos on general maintenance etc etc.

Well done on those pads sir, they were used for every last inch of their lives :grinning:.

A couple of tips I could add to anyone watching this, this guy was very very lucky with those pins. They are sometimes an absolute disaster to take off so I would recommend the following. 100% buy a replacement set of pins, well worth it as knocking these pins out can make them bow. For the cost of new pins its always worth it.

Secondly if like me you have issues getting these pins out then rather than going to town, smacking the crap out of the pin and probably chipping your calipers give this a try. I used a dremel and just cut the pins off, couple of cuts to release the pressure and youll notice that the front part will just fall out and the rear may need a little persuasion. I spent about an hour on one side trying to get the pin out, the other side 2 mins

    Great vid

  5. good video. It is surprising how straight forward maintenance can be on your own car.

What is under the red car cover?

  6. Too much - please don’t follow me using pads down to that level. It’s not recommended!

  7. I was going to replace mine pins and agree that for a few pounds it makes sense - think I’ll do that next time.

  8. It’s my SL500 that I’ve just sold and bought another performance icon from the 2000’s. I can’t tell you yet as the YT videos are several weeks behind real time. But it’s one of the great 4 door performance cars of the last 25 years and a real animal to drive.
