  1. Hi all,

So we are trying to diagnose the issue with the car and I'm thinking if I can compare my graph to someone else's it will give an indication of how it looks.

In particular the torque curve dips and so does the hp around 2500rpm, then goes back up.

I don't feel this in the car, I only feel the surge usually in 3rd coming hard out of second. But interestingly, if i didnt have RS Monitor, I perhaps wouldn't notice so much.

    Anyone care to share theirs?

  2. Take it to a proper Renault tuner such as EFi, engine dynamics or RS tuning.

  4. No chance. If ive got to travel, I'll steer well clear.
The car is being sorted locally, I was Interested in looking at graphs. Thanks for sharing yours

  5. Fair enough. I traveled over 2 hours down to EFI, well worth it.

  7. Do you know what the boost pressure is?

Before EFi mapped mine, it was running a mad max style map, massive surge in boost pressure low down and the throttle was partially closing to stop the thing from exploding! It was fun, wheelspins at 80mph were exciting, but it was crazy! I think it was hitting over 1.5bar of boost pressure and stable at 1.5 bar! It would occasionally go into limp mode as I think the 225 map sensors are only good for around 1.5 bar.

Chris toned it down, limited the torque and the boost is a smooth 1.2 bar now.

  8. Between 1.2 + 1.4 bar.

  9. Years ago I used to do that, although I travelled almost 2 hours to cooksport. But I had other business there.

  10. The problem you have there is if the ‘local’ place don’t know the car and what they are doing your going to end up with more problems. False economy.
The places already mentioned would likely have known or being able to identify what was wrong without you having to ask on a forum. I’d have zero confidence in somewhere mapping my car that couldn’t diagnose an issue why they couldn’t map it. Other people’s graphs will tell you nothing about the issue with your car.

  11. And the graphs you should be looking at comparing if any are afr and boost pressure which might give you more of an idea if there’s a fueling or boost issue not the bhp and torque graphs

  15. i drove from the south west to leeds to get my car mapped 10 years ago at RS Tuning.Never missed a beat. Some of us have been around from the start of the Meganesport scene,so know how many ticking time bombs there are about from badly tuned,or generic maps being uploaded. You have to ask yourself can you afford to replace a blown up engine, rather than the inconvenience of a days driving to make sure your car is running as it should from the likes of RS Tuning or EFI.

Some of these flash maps are awful,as well as having no idea if the cars running ok without a rolling road tune.
I would never take a chance with a 3-4k engine...but each to there own.

  17. There are other tuners available that have rolling roads.

Yes to be blunt to your question. The car can go bang tomorrow, it would be inconvienient but that's about it.

I don't need educating on remaps. I've had plenty. Cheap, expensive, they have all done a job.

Im interested in graph comparisons, particularly the torque dip, which I don't feel in the car anyway.

  18. people are trying to offer friendly advice..which is what people do on a car forum. You seem to be thinking we are trying to lecture you.
We are trying to offer the benefit of our experience, which most people want on a car forum.
we apologize for annoying you..wont happen again.

  19. not at all... You seem to think I'm annoyed, but I guess that's the issue with the written word.

  20. Boom. Not the engine just problem resolved.
Took the car to stage X today and Viorel used a map he had on his precious car producing roughly 310hp.

Now the car pulls like it should in every gear I'm confident to try publicly. Solid boost, no serging.

I'll get it on the rollers when I can. 3rd and 4th is savage.

Changed the O2 sensor as a precaution. Lost my adjustable spanner to the undertray.

    Buy cheap. Buy twice.

  22. It's just incredible the difference. I didn't think that a cheap map would really be an issue. Still I wanted to try and thankfully I did.
I trust that like me, most won't listen, but what I will say is the "specialist" tuners are not just the only ones capable of tuning.

They are however the safer bet.

  23. Something I have only just worked out, standard map is on all the time, when you engage sport, or disengage traction control, the remap kicks in. Its such a handy thing, particularly with the commute.

  24. Exactly that. With a generic map you are hoping that everything on the car is working correctly and it does not exaggerate a problem or cause the car to run rich or lean, which then leads to long term damage. I think many of the generic maps are probably set at fairly safe parameters though.

I have recently taken my car to Engine Dynamics for a remap now I have completed all the modifications I want on the car. Part of this was to get the best out of the modifications and part for peace of mind to make sure the car is running and fueling correctly before going on track.

When I purchased the car I was told it had a generic 300bhp map on it and it did seem to go well! It was confirmed on the rolling road that it did have a map on it as boost was higher than standard and made 288bhp/280ftlb. With the car now set up by Andy at Engine Dynamics it is running 313.8bhp/337ftlb. It is nice and smooth delivery due to the way it has been mapped for my car and feels perfect. I feel much happier with the map as it has been set up correctly for my car. I accept this costs a bit more money, but I hope in the long run it will save me money.

I do see both sides though and I have used generic maps on my Clios in the past. My RS 250 was mapped by RS Tuning and the RS 265 by Engine Dynamics. Both drive amazing. I will be taking my Clio 172 Cup to Engine Dynamics for a remap too after my recent experience with them. The specialists definitely know their stuff!

  25. I imagine generic maps are as you say on the low side of output tolerances. That said, running a car rich could cause pistons to cook up with carbon, as well as the valves, will lose power and run more sluggish. Alternatively too lean can cause the engine to run with too much friction, resulting in increased wear, sometimes rapidly.

The stupid tax for my experience was £180. It won't be repeated.

  26. I would be careful using a map of another car, if its detting or lean then it might cost you an engine. Needs an afr check minimum.

Back in the day the mrs meg 225 had a generic map on. I thought it was standard so didnt know any better. It was detting and knock sensor was barely keeping it in one piece. Mapper could not believe it had stayed in one piece and no damage.

  27. and so it continues...

  28. Thats the thing, I imagine a lot of cars have generic type maps that people just do not detect. It was a little more than a copy and paste, but the map was written by them, i'm happy enough to trust the situation.

I'll get the car on the rollers when i can for interest,

This is the end of the line for now. Unless as Brigsy points out, the piston drops and gets smashed through the side of the block.
