Has anyone had any kind of problem with intake temperatures with a Wagner IC? Today I went on a trip of about 200 km, and on the highway with an outside temperature of around 28º I always had around 38 to 40º of intake temperature. even when giving a little bitte of gas the temperature dropped just 4 to 5 degrees. with the cruise control it's the same difference! will it be normal, or is there a problem? I know Wagner's ic's have a very good reputation, but I don't think it's normal for the temperature to be so high.
I can double check mine for you tomorrow, but your temps sound normal. I remember before I upgraded I hit 65 with the stock one!
on the way home, there was an accident and we had to drive slowly and sometimes stop for a few minutes, during that time the temperature reached 50°C. but I think it's normal, there's no air to cool down. after passing this phase, I gave gas and the temperature dropped, but as soon as I take off my feet, or kept up the speed, it went up straight away! I always thought that with Wagner I would see lower temperatures, but I have to start not looking at that
Sounds completely normal! The intercooler only comes into play when the turbo spools to drag air in though it. When off boost the inlet temps will be the same as a standard cooler.
Yes I understand that! But with the original intecooler the maximum I could see was about 8º + beyond the outside temperature! I also know that Wagner makes a lot more volume and therefore the air has to move more.
Mine today was about the same as you experienced. Indicated outside air temp was 21C and intake was about 30C.

I’m running a Wagner intercooler on stock map and I have exactly the same as you - whilst doing good motorway speeds today, the outside temp was 26C and the inlet temp was 38C. the traffic built up and then it was stop start for a bit, and the intake temp went up to 50C. But you know it’s working because if you then pull away fast and get the turbo spinning, the inlet temp drops fast by a few degrees. the problem in stop/start traffic is heatsoak? Always wondered whether it would help heat wrapping the black plastic pipe from intercooler to throttle body, because it sits right behind all the hot rads, but haven’t got around to it yet. I am pretty sure that the stock intercooler showed similar numbers on the inlet temps - bigger intercooler probably only makes a difference when it’s been mapped. Possibly.
Stock intercooler is the biggest thing that holds these back in terms of power. With stock you will struggle to get over 290hp with a map. When I had mine mapped at EFI it pulled 288 on the stock map with the Wagner! Like you say when you are boosting hard and getting air through it, that's where the difference is made. The other benefit of the Wagner is the fact it doesn't block the rad behind it, unlike the big slabs of alu like the Forge or Airtec stage 2.
The high temps at standstill must be heatsoak in the hoses over the top of the engine and behind the rads. I was considering an ITG CAI, not for induction sound but to get the inlet temps lower, but do the inlet temps need to be lower - maybe it doesn’t make much difference? After all, it’s forced induction. Tbh, it Doesn’t seem much slower when it’s hot but I’m not tracking it.
Yeah think it's just heatsoak which is to be expected for a turbo car. I'm hoping to track mine in the not too distant future so i'll find out how hot it gets!
