Megane 265

Discussion in 'Megane Projects' started by Lopes3d, Apr 16, 2021.

  1. So I’ve been here just over a year now so thought I’d start one of these. Bought the car stock apart from braided front hoses and a stage 1 map from a company I’ve never heard of, so hoping when I go to get it properly mapped my ECU isn’t locked or if it is EFI can unlock it. Purchased just before COVID last year so haven’t really done mega miles in it so far, although I don’t daily it. By far the most fun car I’ve had when pushing it (some track days pending), although it feels like a quicker version of my JCW which was also a very capable car on an B road. Future plans are to go “club sport spec” and to do some track days. Specs so far;

    All belts/fluids changed/thermostat
    KTR induction kit
    Airtec intercooler (waiting for fitting)
CLM racing boost hoses (waiting for fitting)
Forge recirc valve (waiting for fitting)
CGR downpipe (waiting for it to come back from France!)
    Miltek non res catback
    Upgraded gearbox bolt
    ATS gtr 17” with PS4
    BC coilovers
    ZPO shifter
Recaro pole positions (waiting for insurance to finish)
Sw half cage (waiting for insurance to finish)

Further to this need to get some better pads in there and to get it mapped once parts have been fitted, but here’s some pics so far.

What insurance companies are people with and how are they accommodating for mods? 3. Hi man! Nice toy have you there, and can see you have good plans for it. I hope you enjoy a lot and I´ll take a seat here waiting for the progress.
    Cheer up!

  4. Thanks man! It must be doing something right keeping if it’s keeping me from permanently looking on autotrader. Slowly but surely getting to where I want it to be

  5. Bit of an update, intercooler, downpipe, boost hoses, recirc valve, and repair to miltek front pipe as bracket has sheared off, all fitted down at select motorsport. Ran into problem of the studs snapping on the turbo to downpipe, but heli coiled and all sorted.

Has anyone got a decat downpipe and a non-res miltek, just wondering how many decibels it’s giving out and weather it would be allowed on track or not

  6. I have a decat & non res Milltek fitted & have never had any issues with noise ( Castle combe, Donington, Snetterton).

  7. As above, running decat milltek and full non res exhaust on my mates track car, only place which you may have problems is thruxton as the limit is lower there.

  8. That’s good to know was debating to get a centre res or not. Cars booked in for mapping next month so hopefully all goes well.

Mocked up the seats yesterday in the rain, so no before anyone asks no pics:tearsofjoy:. I’m 5’8 and with the pure track side mounts I’m struggling to put the clutch in on the closest setting. So I’m thinking I’m going to have to go down the subframe and rails route

  9. Office is coming along well now, need to tidy up the harnesses a bit. Adjusted seat as far forward can go on the pure track side mounts can comfortably reach the peddles but still feels too low. Gonna drill the top holes further upward. Will have to try and get hold of some carpet or make a false floor in the rear. 77DAD2E4-362B-4BE6-A702-79CD8B87A5C5.jpeg DB9F0B75-A3CD-403D-AC7E-E0B3B690102F.jpeg BE2AE655-3804-4927-8CE7-2F0B2E3A56BE.jpeg

  10. Not too much done recently, fitted a sunstrip. Drilled new holes in the pure track side mounts to raise the seat further up. Got it bang on for myself now.

Drive out to caffeine and machine yesterday fair few meganes turned up in the morning, good day out apart from it throwing a “check stop start”.

Think I’ll just get a new battery as there’s no record of it being changed. Once replaced will the message clear it self or will I need to get someone with clip to turn it off? B93C06D5-16FE-4C28-BDD6-E4C6575D141B.jpeg

  11. Where are you from as that's 15miles from me.

  12. From Reading, but we normally head up there last Saturday or Sunday of the month. If your interested I’ll drop you the details next time they set the event up

  13. When my battery was on the way out everytime I stopped it would say "Stop-start unavailable" on the dash. Also if i left the radio on for a while (maybe 15mins or so) it would say "Battery low, start engine". I had it battery tested which it failed so confirmed to me that it was on the way out.

After you replace the battery it will come up on the dash saying "New Battery?". Select yes with the buttons on the end of the stalk and that's all you need to do as far as I know.

  14. Yes please and if you want I can show you a few very twisty roads you may not be aware of.

  15. Cheers for that, I imagine all doors etc were open when cage and that was being fitted, then I had it open for a while with the seat out drilling the holes out. So makes sense that it’s drained and doesn’t help I’ll only use it at weekends

  16. We normally meet up at beaconsfield services and get off at junction 11 and take the backroads. Once the next one is released I’ll give you a shout

  17. Handy, check stop-start has disappeared now. Must of charged up enough to not throw the message up.

Ordered oil+filter, plugs, coil packs and a filter cleaning kit in prep for mapping later on this month

  18. This is awesome!

  19. Silver ATS looks so good on the car!

  20. Thanks! Always think with black wheels you loose the detail

  21. Car looks great. Just in the midst of a similar build:wink:

what offset are the gts? They look great. Any issues with rubbing?

    Thanks

  22. Thanks, I can’t remember of the top of my head think the spec of them are 17x9 et42. I’ve only had issues with rubbing on the screw at the top of the arch liner when going over the dips in the motorway other than that it’s fine no rubbing. May just take the screw out soon but not that much of an issue

  23. Thanks for getting back to me - yeah you are right they are 42 offset. Have to say they look brilliant. Tempted to go for them now:wink:

  24. Not much of an update but done the service on it ready for mapping next week. New coils, plugs, oil+filter and cleaning kit for the ktr cone. Needs a good clean got more cobwebs than black paint at the moment:sweatsmile:

Wow what a PITA to get to that filter what oil filter remover are people using or is there a special Renault one? With the coolant hoses that run across it really limited room to manoeuvre

  25. Car went in for mapping Tuesday up at EFI. Turns out the car was staged 1, with all the hardware I put on made 295bhp can’t remember the torque figure. So Chris loaded the base map for the stage 2 and first pull boost hose came off. The insert from the original hose wasn’t put in the new CLM hose although he tried just jubilee clipping tighter but popped straight back out.

Adapter now in the hose just waiting for a new intercooler clip from Renault, and booking back in for finishing the mapping off. Absolute nightmare driving back with no boost and being 200 miles each way was not too fun. Silver lining my car now has Chris jubilee clip off the 1000bhp Renault 5:tearsofjoy:

Need to find some time to fit these. Went with plain discs all round, PBS pro race up front (thanks to supersai) and pbs pro track on the rear. Rbf 660 and clutch damper delete not pictured to be fitted as well. Never used this EZ car care before but all that for £70 can’t really go wrong.

Boost leak fixed, and booked back in to finish the map next week, might give it a well deserved clean after the 2 trips and 800 miles to and from EFI

Trip up to EFI yesterday went well, car feels like it’s got a lot more torque mid range and generally a lot smoother. Mentioned my turbo actuator was ever so slightly weak as it should of been around 310bhp, but not worth changing as it’s still making good boost

  28. You got the map on all the time or just through TC off?

  29. All the time and just a different throttle map on sport button. Didn’t see the point in having 2 different maps I’d want it all the time

  30. Im seeing the benefit of two maps... But yes, if the additional map is needed it's a few seconds of waiting....

Got round to fitting one side of the brakes today, pretty easy set up on these. Would of done the passenger side but it’s hot af. I’ve had to remove the studs out of the disc does anyone know what loctite is recommended?

Whilst the wheels will be coming off gave them a clean and coating, not too bad for getting on for a year. Also booked first track day for September.

Not much done recently but some recent pics taken down at C&M and Clio and coffee meet. Not my pics by the way credit to whoever took these.

  33. Been seriously debating weather to sell this recently to the point I’m still waiting for my retention from dvla. Had a deposit taken on this, but had a track day booked months back. This was my first track day and pretty safe to say I’m hooked, deposit has gone back and the car is staying only problem is I’ve just wasted £80 removing my plate. Car was faultless the whole day and performed better than expected, towards the end had what felt like brake judder but put this down to fluid getting too hot as once cooled down hasn’t happened since? May need some kind of brake ducts or backing plates on pads, any recommendations welcome. Few bits on the to do list my tow strap didn’t arrive in time and still waiting for it, oil change and box oil will be done once ordered. As for box oil elf tranself nfp 75w-80 ep, from what I’ve gathered this is what I need for an LSD car. But according to Opie oils it’s been superseded has anyone used the tranself nfx sae 75w

Mr Spoon, manugtt and Poppaboost like this.
  34. I was sent the new stuff NFX from Opie oils when I ordered NFP, says it supersedes it, so I changed the box oil and have had no issues whatsoever. FYI standard cup LSD box.

  35. as the largest distributor of Total lubricants, and an ex employee from Total, i can still get elf tranself nfp 75w-80. Seems Opie are using the superseded line to sell what's on their shelf.

Ps - this is in no way an advert or request to try and sell. I make nothing on a few litres of product, im in the business of hundreds of thousands and millions of litres. Point im making is it is still available. Don't always trust businesses that have a financial interest in selling you something.

  38. Love this car and those wheels, track days are so dangerous to your wallet in these cars.... there flipping awesome.

Regarding the brakes I would consider changing the front pads next time to maybe winmax w5 or w6.

PBS are good and on the rear I believe are well suited but from what others had told me there is better for the front. Ive got the same brake setup as you, same fluid, rear pads, discs but with winmax w5 up front. At brands last month they were unreal, zero issues, fade etc and it was a 28 degrees day

  39. Thanks! That’s interesting with the pads up front, would of thought the pro race up front would have been man enough. Probably end up getting another set of pads to try up front and keep the pro race for the road

  40. Ive not tried the pbs up front so Im only going off what other trackdayers had said for their Meganes. However ive got slotted discs which eat the pads a tad more and might help the heat a little more than plain. The wear rate on the w5 are really good though, hardly touched them where as i believe some pads can do a couple of track days and they are done i reckon these will do a whole year no probs.
