Aux Belt noise

Discussion in 'New to the Club? Why not introduce yourself?' started by Jimmy Lam, Feb 3, 2021.

  1. Hi all,

Picked up my megane recently and after a short drive, I noticed a systematic grinding noise coming from the aux belt. It only comes on when after it's warm and sounds like it's catching something?

Anybody have any idea? It had the both belts/water pump/dephaser done in 2017 at 60K, it's now sitting at 82k.

I've uploaded a clip of the noise here : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LaL5MzzMFbiQNHH0Qbnz5beqNlTT_7Px/view?usp=sharing

    Cheers

  4. Not at all, i drive it at least every other day and do 100 miles a week. It only comes on when warm, however the sound has completely disappeared today.
Yeah the invoices indicate the aux belt were also changed, I've ordered an auxbelt and tensioner from RPD and ill go from there - Ive heard horror stories where the aux belt goes and bricks your engine and it's making me paranoid haha.

  5. yer is worry buying older vehicle and validity of work done as the belts are a price point on these when selling, think doing right thing swapping out the aux belt and go from there, let know how goes

  6. If the previous owner used a unreliable garage they sometimes charge you but do not change the parts, i have seen it before.
Like you say, change the belt and you can remove this from the equation if noise comes back. Bearings on aircon pump or alternator could also be the cause, let us know the result, it will help others in future to have a solution to a problem
