I always struggle to get my rear to ride the same height. The OS won't raise to the height of the NS, I've ran out of adjustment on the spring and I had a play twisting the shock to no avail.
I had my 265 setup by CGR when they fitted the suspension, on my 225 i just fitted it and thats how it stayed, going to have to get my act together when fitting this new system to try and sort it properly
I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get it set up properly tbh. Should be better balanced too.
How long have they been on, im going to leave mine for a while for the suspension to settle, then find somewhere to set it up for me, trouble is that down here there isn't anywhere to do it, so will more than likely sort a trackday somewhere at the same time
As far as i can go atm, waiting for a mate to send me a smf clutch kit 2021-01-22_11-00-02 by Ian Austin, on Flickr
Sticking with the standard 265 turbo for the minute 2021-01-22_11-00-20 by Ian Austin, on Flickr 2021-01-22_11-00-41 by Ian Austin, on Flickr
Understood! About suspension set up, is very dificult and very personal at time. I like a weigth distribution about 60-40, after that, make the suspension works fine is a hard job, at least for me!
No, but it wont be long before it gets mapped, need to run it in first then straight up to EFI at the first opportunity. Then a look out for another Borg Warner turbo
Adrain (RS250 castle combe) bought it, he's on our WhatsApp group, he wanted me to forge his 250 but in the conversation he had a liking for my 265, so once i made sure the R26 is was looking at was still available the deal was done. I always liked my 225 better on track anyway, it wasn't just driving yours, i was going to do the swap back at some point, was going to get a bit more use out of the 265 first, or so i thought
I had some threaded bar in the workshop, think they were around 40mm, but i can measure them if want, sort of eyed one and cut the others to match.
Yes and i used nylock nuts on them, if there a bit long it doesn't matter, just don't over tighten them
Would you tell me why do you prefer the mk2? I´ve had both too and, without offense, found the mk3 superior in a few points(engine, steer, chasis...). I like the mk2 senses but the mk3 give me a bit more fun.
I feel the Mk2 is better as you can rotate it mid corners, the mk3 just lets go and spins, only managed to catch it once and that was more luck than judgment. I used to get the rear on my 225 to move on any corner i wanted. had an episode at Spa where the car in front dumped a load of fuel in the start of Pouhon at about 100mph was totally sideways and still managed to pull it back
Nice work mate!! Sure it will be a very strong decent engine hehe. Two questions: - Is it worth the upgrade to bigger intake hard pipes or using OEM ones is just fine?. From my understanding they won't give any more HP or maybe a marginal amount but bigger pipe will make the life of the turbo easier as you make a little bit less of a restriction for the air to flow and maybe in the higher rpms you can achieve a nicer torque curve, am I right?. - Would you be runnig oil cooler?
From my understanding the pipes are enough for 500hp, or the throttle body is the restriction, i might ask the question when im at EFI, the outlet from the turbo isn't that big but i know what you are saying. But if the pipe is too big then there could be a lag issue.
I'm sure they are, there not new one of the parts i forgot to order, they came out of my 265 before that was forged, i will get some new ones before i start it, although they were fine before they were removed.
Did a bit more to the car today, fitted the stereo that i bought for the 225, its a Sony DAB mex-n6002, had to get a new adapter as there is a difference between 04 and 17 plate cars. Had to fit a new DAB Antenna to the screen as the old one didn't come off too well, then had to run the cable to the stereo, it also has a mic for the hands free, so the other side trim all had to come off. Another absolutely shite job was to remove the old spoiler, took a good 4 hours to get it off and clean off the sticky pad stuff. Also done the aircon delete, stripped the pump out like i did on the 225, but this time i have only used the front end and put a strap on it to steady the pump, just in case 2021-01-25_11-31-14 by Ian Austin, on Flickr
This turned up today, not as good as my home made one PXL_20210201_183653435 by Ian Austin, on Flickr PXL_20210201_183642900 by Ian Austin, on Flickr
today i put my new calliper's on (mk3 ones), haven't got the spacer yet, so put the standard bolts in and put the wheels on, bloody wheel wouldn't turn, the wheel is wedged against the calliper, so off came the wheels again, took the calliper off completely. Put the wheels back on and lowered the car to the ground. Rolled the car forward to give me some room at the back to start the job of taking the rear subframe out, jacked up wheels off, disconnected the plastic subframe guard, inner wheel arch's, abs sensors, hand brake cables and hydraulic brake flexi's. jacked up the rear subframe and undo the shock absorbers, lower the beam and remove the springs, jack the beam back up and remove the bolts holding beam and out it came. Banged out the old bushes, scrapped off some rust, attacked it with a wire brush attachment in my cordless drill. Cleaned it up and gave it some paint. New black Powerflex beam bushes fitted, also fitted the Hel rear flexi's, the new BC ds rear shocks fitted, all ready to be reinstalled tomorrow.
One question Ian, use you any special tool to fit the rear bushes?? The black ones are so harder and don´t think they fit by hand. I´ve reed a few times the black series are too hard for the handling, aren´t they?
From this place in the USA, i didn't get hit with import duty either well happy https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainles...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
It was harder to get the old ones out, once it was all cleaned up, i used there grease and smeared that in the hole where the bush fits, and it pushed in a fair way and then tapped it in with a hammer for the last bit, its all back fitted no problem. Not tried it on the road yet, but i will put up with it as its my track car.
Refitted the beam, fitted the new rear BC suspension, thought something was wrong, the springs that came off were Ebaich's so i'm sure that they would be a little shorter than standard, well some difference between these. PXL_20210202_131601836 by Ian Austin, on Flickr It's all fitted, but just before i put the wheels back on i thought i would clean the brake pads up, well that didn't go well, both rear callipers were virtually seized, couldn't wind the pistons back in. So the callipers were stripped, cleaned and painted, then put back together and refitted to the beam.
Ebaich are progressive so compress down to smaller size bit like helper spring and the BC just reg spring, what rate spring you go for with BC ??
Yes i went for BC's, but i went for the DS series, so will see what there like I was just surprised in the difference in the free length
8 front and 7 rear, same as i had on my 225, its not a daily driver so thats not a problem, i just need it to be good on track
