Hello. I don’t know if I’m being thick but my engine bay fuse box looks like this Has anyone got a diagram for this box and can anyone tell me where the starter motor fuse is please? Many thanks Ian
The main starter fuse is on the battery terminal block, as for the solenoid fuse sorry i'm not sure where that is.
Thanks alot Ian, I’ve ordered a terminal from RPD, I’ll hav to get an auto electrician out if tha doesn’t work
Terminal didn’t work, new starter motor didn't work either Auto Electrician that came out (first one I booked didn’t turn up) said his machine is pointing to a fuse box problem as this particular fuse box doesn’t have a starter motor fuse, wiring diagram he found points to the starter motor being wired direct to the fuse box. All the checks his machine done pointed out no other problems in terms of clutch pedal sensors etc and starting conditions were satisfied yet still nothing from the starter motor. One other thing it pointed out was alternator type incoherent but I don’t see why that would stop it turning over. I haven’t touched the alternator and there is no evidence it has been replaced so god knows about that one. Got a fuse box coming off a 1.6 which looks identical to mine which has the code USMC-PFT just like 225 and R26R ones I’ve saw for sale. I have read engine bay fuse boxes are plug and play with no need to reprogramme so I’ll make sure it has brand new fuses the correct amperage in the same place as on my original and give it a whirl. Any info would be great. I feel at the minute that if I woke up and someone towed it away I’d be the happiest man on earth. New battery, new starter motor and still the same. As soon as it is fixed I will be selling it for another Ford. Cheers, Ian
Thanks to advice from AA engineer and Auto Electrician, I purchased a brand new battery, brand new starter motor, Brand new alternator, brand new radiator as it has to come off to do the alternator and it has had a weep under pressure all 5 years I have owned it, new Renault coolant, second hand fuse boxes and still wouldn’t start. Turned out to be the negative cable from battery to gearbox, the 2 of them cost me a fortune in parts I didn’t need. So advice to everyone, check this cable wether you have problems or not!!!
[QUOTE="Turned out to be the negative cable from battery to gearbox[/QUOTE] good follow up as loose battery cable is quite common fault on these and hopefully save another the substantial expense you’ve suffered
Does it take long changing the negative wire to the gearbox having the same problem goin and is the starter hard to change cheers
It is connected to the gearbox under the battery tray, so once you have the battery and tray out its not too bad a job. Starter motor is a real shit, as you have to remove the heatshield and that has one nut under the exhaust manifold, then its getting to the starter motor bolts
The worst part I thought was getting the old one out and the new one in mate! I done it on my back in the driveway during storm Dennis as it was my daily at the time. What is wrong with yours mate?
