After doing a few track days, mainly in my Mk6 ST fiesta & my Mk7 ST fiesta, in the UK & at the Nurburgring and seeing so many Meganes, I thought it was about time I made a purchase! Plus, taking the fiesta to the ring and any other track than Croft (which is about 10 minutes away from me) was a really uncomfortable journey, I decided enough was enough! After multiple conversations with Alex @ PerformanceOnly, and deals falling through on a couple of cars, I finally found the car for me. A 2015/65 Flame Red 275 Cup-S, 39k miles, FSH & a handful of really good upgrades (as well as a great factory spec) I bought it without seeing it. When I bought the car from Alex it already had the following; AST5100 (7kg springs) Solid AST Topmounts SuperPro Adjustable Droplinks Driveshaft Spacers CGR Rear Axle Shims Factory Akrapovic Full Leather CS OZ Ultraleggeras And some pics;
Before collecting the car from Alex, I made some changes - starting with the wheels! I wanted to drop to 17x9’s, in order to run slightly wider tyres for track use, so as I’ve found on many track spec’d Meganes, in came the Enkei RP01’s... But due to the alignment set up, they didn’t fit properly - so I had to raise the rear up slightly till I sorted out the scrubbing! However, before I had chance to do this, I ran into some issues - it wouldn’t be a Renault without them, would it?! The A/C compressor seized, causing the worst knocking noise I’d heard in my life! But as ever Alex was super helpful, and we got the car taken straight to RS tuning to be sorted! Two weeks passed, and they couldn’t get the car to replicate the fault - as it usually the case when a car goes into a garage - I got the car back. The issue came back, and went away, and came back... so it was off to see Kris at Rensport, and out came the A/C!
The idea of me getting a 275 was to build it into a clubsport spec, as I plan to use the car for ring trips and uk track days. So I set about that by removing the rear seats, fitting a set of Motamec Evo two seats (super comfy by the way)... I also added a ZPO gear knob raiser - which eventually will be replaced with a full ZPO shifter - as well as getting Kris at Rensport to do the ‘short shift mod’. I also got sick of the scrubbing with the 17x9 RP01’s, and replaced them with a set of speedlines which I got for an absolute steal... I also bought a 3” CGR downpipe and had that fitted, it really brings the car to life - especially with the Akrapovic!
Another few weeks had passed, and I decided I wasn’t a fan of the speed lines (trust me, I am terrible for changing wheels around) So, along came my new wheels. Rota Titan 17x9, with a brand new set of PS4’s, these were fitted along with a Pure Motorsport stud and it kit, and some more camber shims for the rear. I wasn’t feeling them in grey, so I got them refurbed in Motorsport Black, which makes ‘em look class I think... I also removed the front black Renault badge - I need to do the rear soon - as well as got a sunstrip fitted! I’m still having some scrubbing issues on the rear, which is I assumed because they are et42? However, I’ve started having a misfire issue every now & again on cold start, but on both occasions it’s been really low on fuel - and it’s not mapped for the decat yet, so I think it’s all connected. I checked the plugs (they were fine, but I’ve ordered a new genuine set just to be safe) and a new fuel filter - so I’m hoping that cure the issues I’ve been having. The car is booked into RS tuning on the 6th of January to have the map tweaked for the decat, so I’ll get them to give it a full health check! Before that thought, I’ve got a Airtec intake to fit!
So in the 3 months I’ve had the car, I’ve got quite a few bits done, below is the current spec of the car; Engine; RS Tuning stage 1 remap (on rs button) Akrapovic 3” CGR downpipe Short shift mod Suspension; AST 51000 AST solid top mounts Pure Motorsport rear camber shims CGR driveshaft spacers Superpro drop links Motamec coilover socks Stud & nut kit Brakes & wheels; PFC Z rated pads Brembo high carbon discs Rota Titan 17x9 et42 Michelin P4’s Mr Pink brake pins Interior; Motamec Evo2 Bucket Seats SW Motorsport Side mounts ZPO Shifter extension Rear seat delete Styling; HID 4300k conversion Philips Silvervision indicator bulbs Dewipered Debadged rear tailgate Rhino Lip front splitter Raeder sunstrip I’ve got a few parts waiting to be fitted, which I will get around to shortly which are; Airtec Intake SW motorsport rear brace Omp wheel & boss kit Volantec cruise panel Braided lines Rbf660 fluid Race design spoiler lip 4 point luke harness’ Which hopefully, along with the ‘stage 2’ map from RS tuning, should get the car running and driving nicely! I have a number of other plans in mind, half cage etc. I’ll try to keep this as updated as possible with my progress...
Not yet mate, ideally want the cage in before any track days. As well as the misfire issue sorted (which I’m hoping will be early January). I’d like to say I’ll have it ready for C/D ring track day in April!
Great looking Cup S you've got there. Wasn't a fan of the gold wheels when it popped up for sale so glad to see you've replaced it with something in black, looks much better I think! What did your car make at RS Tuning on the stage 1 map? Mine has a map from Engine Dynamics with no mods, think its at 290/310 right now. I'm planning to add a Pro Alloy or Wagner intercooler, ITG/Ktec induction kit and a GT Perf sports cat (already have an Akra) and hoping to be up around the 320/360 I had with my old 250.
No mate I wasn’t a huge fan of the gold wheels either, but I wanted 17’s too, especially for track use! It was mapped with just the Akra, and made 289bhp - unsure on the torque figure. But it’s back for another map on the 6th January, with the decat and airtec intake, so I’ll post the results mate.
It makes less power in comparison to other 250/265 or 275. Due to Euro6 ecu mate, not entirely sure what the difference in them is...
About the same as mine then with no mods. Good luck with it, be interested to hear what you get next time. I think RS Tuning are a bit more cost effective than some other mappers too as you can add mods as you go and they charge less than a full map each time to tweak it, whereas Engine Dynamics pretty much want to charge for a full map again to tweak mine.
Good to have another Red Cup-S in the group! I think my favourite wheels were the gold OZ's on it originally, but the ones you have now are 2nd for sure and will be much better come track time. Just for reference I had mine done the other day at EFI. Running a Wagner IC and mid box chop, everything else engine wise is stock and it made 317bhp and 345ftlb.
£150+vat for a map tweak, which I don’t think is awful really! Car feels fairly quick as is, but I’d rather it be 100%. I’m not chasing figures, but anything over 310 and I will be happy! I’m not 100% keen on OZ’s, or the gold, or the 18’s! I’m much happier with the current set up, although if a set of ATS Gtr come - I’ll swap to those! Haha Is yours a 275 CUP-S as well? Does yours have a Akra on it? & downpipe? Good, strong figures that!
Don't blame you. ATS wheels are the mutts nuts! Just the standard exhaust on mine with the standard cat and a midbox delete. Wagner intercooler up front and that's it for engine mods. Chris at EFI said a good aftermarket intercooler makes a big difference since the standard one is so bad, which was telling when it pulled 287bhp on the factory map!
Be interesting to see what it’ll make with the downpipe & intake, only thing I don’t have is the Intercooler. Hopefully it won’t hold me back to much!
Got the Airtec intake fitted tonight, along with new oem plugs & fuel filter. Seems to be running the same as was, so will have to see if it still has the cold start issue, there’s still a misfire every now and again but everything looks okay. It’s already for mapping on the 6th January, and I’m sure if there’s any issues, RS Tuning will find it!
