What should COLD start be like??

  1. Odd question perhaps and as this is the first "winter" with the Megane. I thought i should ask.

We've had some nigh on 0-degree temps recently. First few defrosting of the windshield etc.

Past cars - cold start has involved a louder/more revvy start to allow larger amounts of fuel in the cylinders to warm things up. So, in the past, albeit in other cars. I would expect a cold start rpm to be over 1000rpm (say 1200-1400rpm depending on the car) till the car "wakes up" so to speak. This has ranged in length of time.

Cold start in the f1 is very different, in so far as its not different from any other start. It starts up, and just sits at the same rpm regardless of warm weather or cold weather. Roughly 700/800rpm.

Bare in mind really its the MK 3 RS engine from a 275 and mapped with 630 injectors. But i dont imagine they'd have messed with the fuelling on cold start for the mapping.

So i am wondering if this is indicating a sensor fault? Is there anything else that is involved with cold starting meganes? Is this normal? What should i expect?

    Thanks in advance

  2. probably need hook upto CLIP or similar ECU reader see if any sensors are out of cold-start range, the start up has its own map

  3. Cold start map is adjusted to get rid of the hesitation by a good tuner. Do you know who mapped it?

  4. EFI did the map work. Its a very good map. Nice and linear. Feels almost oem in terms of power delivery, nonbigvhikes or gulps just strong all the way through.

That's good to know. A quirk of meganes i wasn't aware of. There's certainly no hesitation that I've noticed. (Bar what was caused by plugs / coils).

I just thought it may be a coolant temp or air temp sensor. Nothing comes up on my obd reader though. So i thought I'd ask the question.

  5. Chris/Efi maps the cold start, ours runs great from cold no hesitation or nothing, miles better than stock cold start. Sounds like its running spot on to me.
