Engine missfire??

  1. Hi guys, so I just took my meg 265 to a dyno to see if it’s had any previous work done to it by the previous owner (bought from a garage). When the guy was finished he came in and told me there’s something wrong with the car. It runs fine up to around 4.5-5000RPM then just drops off. The man said he thinks it’s a misfire and could need new spark plugs and coils. He also said it could be poor boost control with too much boost for the waste gate but he’s more sure it’s a misfire.

anyone had similar issues or know what the issue could be.

  2. Where does your engine temp gauge sit!? Does it fluctuate when driving? Could be your thermostat on its way out?

  3. A faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plug misfire is easy to hear and feel. I would check the gaps first, then replace plugs before anything else. If the coils are OEM then it’s rare for them to fail.

  4. The thermostat doesn’t fluctuate at all once at temperature.

  5. I’ve spoke to a few people now and they have all said it could be the plugs, I didn’t thing the plugs would have any affect or affect the car in the way it is, do you know know why the plugs would cause that problem once at 4500+ and not before hand. Just curious

  6. posibly injectors..whats your mpg like?

  7. Sometimes they’re sensitive to incorrect gaps if mapped otherwise if the plug is faulty then it may only be obvious at higher RPM as things are happening more quickly and therefore the faulty plug is only exposed at the higher RPM.

  8. I have noticed the mpg starting to drop it’s at around 27.3 at the minute but I think that’s just from the driving I’ve been doing because I’ve got from long drives to work to being on furlough due to the virus and only been driving small trips.
I have actually bought some plugs which I’m waiting to be delivered so we shall see if they fix it and I’ll keep you all posted...

    thanks a lot lads

  9. that mileage is fine..both times my injectors have played up,the mpg has plummeted..

Because the engine is forced induction, there is a possibility of the spark being "Blown out" Reduce the gap to 0.6mm, if you replace the plugs, replace them with one number up from the standard ones, so you need BKR8EIX, then if you get it mapped you will have the right plugs already.

Also consider it may need the coils replacing, but do the plugs first.

  11. Where did you take it too Owen? As said change the plugs and see what happens. If not go to Ren-sport in Riverside Industrial Park. Chris is spot on with all things Renault.

  12. I asked Chris he’s booked up for 3 weeks mate but he told me it sounds like the plugs
    Cheers Gareth

  13. Okay so ive just done the spark plugs I put new ones in and gapped them to 0.6mm the old ones were horrendous 3/4 plugs were at least 0.9mm my gauge didn’t go any higher to check but there was movement on the 0.9 slip gauge and the final plug was 0.5mm which is under what I was recommended. I took it for a drive and it felt so much smoother only gave it a couple of blasts but I think I may have fixed it.
Thank you all for the help much appreciated

  14. Glad it seems to be sorted Owen :yum:
